Upon doing research into the field of podiatry I came across this guy who has nothing positive to say about the practice. The guy claims to be a DPM. I am really considering podiatry, but reading all of this makes me cringe. Has anyone else seen this website? Does anyone think it's true?

that site was posted a long time ago, not sure when, but maybe 10 yrs or something... check for urself. podiatry has come a long way; its an underdog, sleeper field that nobody has a clue about/has heard of. the more u learn about it the more you'll agree. that said, in the past it wasn't all that well respected in the medical community. combine that with the newness factor and people sort of second guess its legitimacy.... i was where u are a while ago, saw that site and others, did my research tho (and a lot more) and I can honestly say that I've come to the conclusion that that stuff (angelfire and whatnot) is complete garbage and unfounded today.. erroneous is prob another good word for it. PM me if you have specific questions about the things he says.

bottom line is if you can get over the second guessing of the legitimacy thing i mentioned... which again is just sort of lingering around in a few people (like a random uncle) but def not the medical community today, by the time u graduate and finish ur residency, pod schools will prob be as competitive as dental schools, the legitimacy thing will be completely gone, and u'll be livin a pretty good life (on a lot of levels).

🙄 this is like the 20th time this has been posted. You can search the forums if you want to read more responses about that site. I don't think the site has been updated since 2000.

hahaha, I am sure he got dismissed from a school, went crazy and wrote this. Podiatrists are allowed to go up to the hip in Miami, Podiatrist can do hands in Ohio. We are talking about surgery here

^^You need to do more research. Podiatric scope has advanced, but we are foot and ankle specialists. No DPM does bone/joint surgery on knees, hip, or hands unless it's as an assistant (likely during residency training), so be careful misleading people who might read that.

..To the OP, as was mentioned, that angelfire link is quite old and has been posted again and again. You can run a forum search. It's important not to get caught up in the doom and gloom spewed by a few DPMs with substandard training and an inferiority complex.

As others have already posted, the website cited has been around for many years and is often referenced.

Although the doctor that created the website seems to make some very legitimate points, it's funny that the majority of his classmates and DPM's before and after him seemed to find a way to make it work.

There are always obstacles that can appear to hinder your path. Some of those can be financial, some of those can be political, some of those can be academic, some of those can be self induced, some of those can be due to geographic areas, some of those can be due to poor decisions, some of those can be due to bad luck, some of those can be due to health, some of those can be due to family, friends or colleagues and some of those can be due to poor business.

It's always easy to find an excuse or point a finger at someone, but it's much more difficult to battle your way out of the situation and succeed.

However, I can guarantee you that when you succeed, you will appreciate it much more and you will never look back.

There will always be those that were unhappy with their career choices, and I truly feel sorry for the doctor that created that website, and hope that someday he finds his "nirvana".

well thank you all for clearing that up, my apologies for restating what has already been said countless times lol.

Honestly, stop talking doosh. Pods are NOT doing hip or hand surgery. Do some real research and learn your facts before spreading false info on these forums. A foot and ankle doctor doing hand surgery?!?!?! Try it once you're a DPM, I'm sure you will have a great time in court! I'd advise the twinkie defense.

They may not be able to perform surgery on the hands, but in Michigan they can treat "abnormal nails, superficial excrescenses occurring on the human hands and feet.".

A note to all, if you do post what you call "facts" please back it up with a reference. It is something you will have to learn to do while going through med/pod/dent school so get used to it. If it is your "opinion" then let people know.

SDN has too many "opinions" stated as "facts" already.

if I take the time to quote 90 percent of ckjets' posts, can it count as fact that he has no clue what he is talking about?

Well, that website was quite entertaining.

Twelve years ago, I met a podiatric resident in New York that sounded exactly like this guy. He was disgruntled at the whole world and not just podiatry. His name was Gerald... some Polish sounding name....and he was from the Ohio.

He was definitely the most depressing person I've ever met and our 10 minute encounter left a permanent imprint on my memory. From what I gathered, his co-residents simply stayed away from him.

haha that website is a joke, it looks like some idiot who just took a HTML class just made it. there is absolutely no reliable or credible information on the site.

Everyone is saying that, myself included. He does make specific claims though; i wish someone would take the time to copy and paste them and address them individually.
