I heard that on average, orthopedic surgeons work 12 hours per day. Do they get weekends off?

Bones get broken in the middle of the night, on the weekends, and on holidays. No, orthopods don't get weekends off. They typically work the call schedule so they don't get called every weekend, but if you go into ortho, plan on working late at night, weekends, and holidays. Ortho is one of the few surgical specialties that tends to remain trauma-intensive for most of one's career. Sure, some people do nothing but knee scopes and ACL repairs, but those cush jobs don't come easily.
