Assume that you are dealing with a species in which the number of chromosomes in each somatic cell is 14. How many sister chromatids are present in the early telophase of mitosis?

I think after they go through anaphase, they are considered chromotids/ chromosomes and they are not considered sister chromotids anymore. They are separated. sister chromotids are when two chromotids are attached together shaping an X.

thanks your for response
That's what I thought initially, but in various texts, separated chromatids are still considered as chromosomes..

separate chromotids in telophase and anaphase are considered chromosomes and that why their numbers are equal.

prsn is 100% correct. It took me forever to wrap my head around this concept. A replicated chromosome with 2 chromatids -- looks like X -- is one chromosome. This is the same as a non-replicated chromosome with 1 chromatid -- looks like |. Both chromosomes are single chromosomes. One just has 2x the DNA.

In Telophase II they are still considered chromatids, just not SISTER chromatids. Sister chromatids align in Metaphase II, spindle fibers are attached and then they are pulled apart in Anaphase II.
