When you take MCAT,you have to change screens from one question to the next or from one passage to the next. Do you lose time? Even if you lose a second every time you do this, it seems a lot to me.

Also, when you have the ten minute break, how do you keep track of that time? You can't carry your cell phone with you during the break, right? If so, do you use a watch, and just put a 7 minuter or so timer to be on the safe side? I just want to know what other do.

When you take the test on computer, do you feel like you're straining a lot more than you would on paper...because your eye muscles get strained? I guess, I'm not used to taking the exam on computer, I just print all the tests and take it on paper. 🙂

You better get used to taking it in computer. I agree with you that I would love to take it in paper. I feel like I can control the paper more and flip through any page quickly enough and highlight faster if I needed.

1. Take a practice aamc test.

2. Your test will not automatically start at the end of your ten min break. Therefore, you don't have to worry too much about being back at exactly ten min. However, if you excessively delay your break, I'm sure that aamc will take note of it and take some action. If its a simply a few extra min, then it shouldn't hurt.

3. Your'e right, it is somewhat more difficult on the eyes to take a 5 hour test on a computer compared to a paper exam. For this reason, you need to take multiple aamc practice tests.

There are 7 passages usually and 3 pages of discretes. If you can't spare the 10 seconds on a 70 min test you are cutting it way too close.

Get used to the computerr based test. It isn't going away.

Sorry, but there are some of us who don't finish on time, and can't afford to lose even 10 seconds. And it's not like you flip through pages only once. It's an exam, you sometimes go back to passages...

Yah...I'm pretty sure you lose time. I remember one post about someone who complained her/his loading screen was uber slow leading to a loss of like five seconds every time!

That's another reason why people recommend you practice finishing passages/tests in a shorter time than given. Unfortunately if you're not even finishing your practice tests on paper in time, you'll have to practice and speed up in order to be in a comfortable situation for test day.

Unfortunately that's ten seconds you have to lose. You'd lose it flipping through pages on a paper test too, I really dont see the difference once you get used to it. And you really have no choice but to get used to it.

This issue seriously pissed me off during my real MCAT. My testing center had some combination of a crappy computer and a slow internet connection which resulted in a 5-6 second delay between when I pressed the "Next" button and when the next page loaded. Be prepared for that if you are unlucky.

The testing center usually has a clock in the area where you wait during your breaks. Also, you are required to write down the time you start your break on the check-out sheet at the testing center, so you'll know when you're leaving for the break and when you need to be back. I usually tried to come back within 7-8 mins and just chill in my seat for the rest of the break.

Eh, start getting used to staring at computers. They're the future, I just know it.
