Weird studying habits

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'll play a game of heads up hyper turbo holdem every 30 minutes to an hour I study

I play music to wake myself up when my eyes are drooping

And procrastinate on forums like SDN.

These guys don't even poopsock. Get on my level

Shouldn't you be studying rather than trolling sdn?

Would hate for you to end up merely 15 percentage points or whatever above the mean again.

I read big robbins. dead serious.

Haha that's pretty nice of them! Are they in medicine too?
Definitely not. Hence my saying why they were so patient. Any parent that can stand the explanation of cell biology to them deserves a medal. It got easier with Pathology - at least that's semi relevant.

But how much did you actually retain?
I like his descriptions of the specific diseases in each chapter and pretty much ignore everything histology-wise. I basically use it instead of Pathoma videos because I remember things better from reading than listening.

I did that too. Except did it with my parents/siblings over the phone. Bless them for being so patient.
Things we know about DV:
-Male
-Actually has a family (isn't a machine assembled out of the remains of retired dermatologists)

jk I love you DV, you're like the abusive father I never had 😉

Well I was on the planet Ork and came to Earth in a small, one-man egg-shaped spaceship.

Yeah sounds like you have some great parents! I used to get so excited when I would go home and practice PE skills on my family lol.

I think you probably remember it more also bc the patients on your clerkships (besides Peds) are much older. There was a time where medical schools allowed students to practice physical exam skills on eachother in their Physical Diagnosis - even breast exams, etc. That was a long time ago though - obviously no longer the case.

We practiced most of our physical exam skills on classmates (besides the sensitive ones of course) first before practicing with standardized patients.

+1
We learn everything on each other apart from breast and genital exams. So far it's been only each other - we'll get to standardized patients by the end of this year (possibly in our next unit, not entirely sure), but we start off practicing on each other - our first OSCEs were on each other too.

Most of my study habits are a little off, from what I gather.

As for H&P on one another...ugh, there's a boy who used to give me all his real drug/alcohol/sexual history...and make sure that I knew it was the real thing.

........ how did he do that?
By providing lots of detailed information off the top of his head and then at the end saying "you know, that's my real history right? But I'm not smoking these days"

I make up disgusting mnemonics or really entertaining ways to remember things.

I'll also try coming up with a few ways a simple concept (i.e. choosing between drugs within the same class depending upon renal function or administration route) can be tested.

I can’t stand studying for hours in the clothes that are acceptable to wear around outside as a fully functioning member of society; I have to dress down and wear sweats or something worn and comfortable that probably doesn’t match.

I think this is part of the reason why I’m not a fan of studying in libraries.

When I got bored after studying for like 6 hours I study by doing a hand standing

I just roll around on my bed. Or watch strange documentaries on Netflix. For example, instead of pre-writing secondaries yesterday, I decided to watch a documentary about men who crossdress to win pageants. I will never look at a sponge the same way ever again.
