Weird Waitlist Situation

What?! If you don't mind me asking, what school did this?

i think it works that way of Chapman, but I just got my email today, so I hope it's not there!

That sounds very unprofessional. If you received an acceptance, then they should have had the seat reserved for you unless you passed your acceptance deadline.

I visited Chapman and they do this as a common practice. I spoke with the admissions counselor, Serena, and she made it seem that the school was very clear and open about this policy. They have 2 separate wait lists: 1 traditional wait list and 1 for students that have been accepted but failed to get their deposit in before the class fills up. It's way for them to ensure that they hit their student quota for that cohort. In Chapman's case, the "deposit wait list" is given priority over the other wait list.

After sending in a deposit for a program that I was accepted to, I was informed by the school that they filled their class before receiving my deposit. They offered me the option to be put on a waitlist in case a spot opens up. I haven't heard of a situation like this before so I wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I emailed the school to see if there is a ranking system/where I rank, but haven't heard back yet. What I'm wondering is if the waitlist that I'm on is different than those who were waitlisted but not yet accepted and would I get priority over them if someone drops? Do I have a good chance of being taken off the waitlist? I have already declined my offers from other programs, so if I don't get taken off the waitlist I will have to reapply again next cycle, which would be absolutely horrible. Any advice?

This sounds like my worst nightmare.

Whatever school it is, I just hope they were also up front about this policy. I would absolutely lose my cool over situation like this if I wasn't informed.
