I chose western.
I liked the organization of rotations at western better and the residency programs affiliated with WU as well.

So its official Jagger. Your not going to be joining me at CCOM next year. ATSU it is I take it.

Yeah, it came down between the two ... and it's impossible for me to say I disliked either. I loved CCOM and KCOM, but in the end, KCOM barely inched ahead. Would have been super happy at either program. Also, you can come visit me in K-Ville anytime you'd like. 😉

LOL...I was always thinking Cardio-Thoracic. That's the funny thing about our screen names we all assume different things about each other based on them.

I never read them correctly and instead make little phrasings or sayings of what I think they mean in my head.

It came down to Western and Nova for me as well. I chose Nova. It was cheaper than western (I'm a FL resident), I liked the area that Nova was more than I liked the LA area, and it was closer to family. It was a tough call though both are great schools. I don't regret my decision for a second.

Exact opposite...kind of. Put my deposit down at NSU but hoping to get off the waitlist at Western. Willing to lose the deposit to stay here around LA...

Well for me its a tough choice even though Im from socal. Both schools seem to have a very similar type curriculum, strong rotations, and strong connections to good residency spots in their respective communities. Tuition for western is 41k(in and oos) Tuition for Nova is 40k(I am oos). Pomona itself can be a bit sketchy but nice areas close by, and Broward is also sketchy/nice.

Things that I like better at Nova - they have a D.O./MPH Program, D.O./D.M.D. program, OMM Fellowship scholarship (2 yrs of med school paid!), facilities look almost new, campus is stunning, 10/15 min from beach, going out there would be a huge yet awesome adventure.

Things I like better about Western - I would save a few grand by not having to move across the country, my signif. other would not have to find a new job, the weather is probably more mild, the bugs are smaller, I am more familiar w/ the west coast (laid-back outdoors type lifestyle)

I put my deposit down at Nova before the Western business came up. I am super stoked on Nova but the decision is throwing me for a loop.
What would you do fellow SDNers?? Is there anything about these schools I am not considering?

It might come down to where you eventually see yourself living and practicing medicine. It seems like it's pretty competitive in Cali, so doing your rotations and residency there makes more sense if that's where you want to be. If that's the case, Western wins.

Personally, I like moving and experiencing different areas of the country... and this is the time to do stuff like that. Once you're working, it'll be much tougher to pick up and move.

Exactly, I'm giong to Nova and I'm from Minnesota. I am really looking forward to moving to a different part of the country for at least 4 years. If I don't do this now I probably never will! It is expensive to move across the country but it will be fun and a great experience.

i am actually in the same dilemma! ARG! got to decide before the 2nd deposit! any input will be greatly appreciated!

For me - I love adventure and living in different parts of the country. If I were to choose Nova, it would be an adventure into the south florida unknown, which is exciting to me. The population is very diverse, the beaches are nice and warm, and the everglades look like a fun place to explore. I liked Nova itself slightly better than Western - if both schools were put right next to each other.

However, California is the bomb. We have incredible - beaches (w/surf), mountains, national parks, diversity, and weather. Its a huge state with a wide variety of landscapes and opportunities.

Not easy to pick really.

I think location should only be a secondary reason for picking a school as I think the majority of time will probably be spent studying and dreaming of going to all of the beaches and national parks and such. That is a tough call. I grew up in FL and now live in southern CA so I see both sides. I would go with your intuition if everything is even for you. Where you think you will do the best should be the place you go.
