I've read some things about Western having rotation sites within driving distance for all of 3rd and 4th year... is this still true?

And how much support do you get during the 3rd and 4th years at this school? I've read a few bad things about the school not supporting students enough at this time. Maybe some recent grads or 3rd or 4th year students could reply. Thank you very much for your time.

Also, are most (or all) of the rotations at teaching hospitals?

Who sets up the rotations?

You should ask a mod to move this to the Osteo Forum, you might get more responses there.

For the most part, yes. Sometimes driving distance = 80 miles though, just depends on where you live and a bit of luck.

EDIT: I'll just add that most of my friends had a maximum commute of 30 miles. I chose to live near the beach, so I had a few which topped out at 80 miles one way. However, you can always rent a room for a month or stay with friends.

Define support?

I'd say that most are, while some are at private community hospitals without housestaff.

Who sets up the rotations?

You are given a massive list of predefined 'tracks' with various permutations of a core curriculum, varying by site and time of year for each core rotation. You then rank the tracks in order of your preference, and you "match" based on that. Most people get one of their top 10 choices, however some of my classmates were not so lucky, and ended up with their 50th and beyond choice.

Support, as far as, some of it is who sets up the rotations. And when there is a problem with it are you able to get the help you need, things like that I guess. I don't know the exact right questions to ask or how to ask them, I just want to make sure the school makes sure I'm able to get what I need at a good site.

thanks a lot for your response. Helped me feel more comfortable a bit... really hoping to attend Western. Have an interview scheduled soon.

Core rotations are handled by the school. All electives are setup by you. If you have problems, there are varying levels of support. If you ended up with a core rotation you don't like for some reason, it's basically "tough ****". However, electives are a different story. Personally, when I've had problems they have been handled quickly and well, however I have had several friends with different fates.

Another question... are the rotations at Western generally pretty good, in as far as allowing students opportunities to actively participate?

The large majority do, yes. However, there are a couple to stay away from, and you will be able to find those out through the rotation database or from upperclassmen.
