The admissions process is wide open. The deadline for students to cough up $15,000 is August 3rd. The calls will start coming between the middle of July and end of August and believe it or not I had a classmate that was called in the middle of September b/c a student dropped out and there was an opening.

So don't give up just yet. This is a tough decision for many. Tuition may say around $40K but it always boils down to more like $60! There are toooooo many hidden costs involved. We won't discuss the long days 9-5 five days a week and finding a p/t position in a pharmacy putting in between 20-40 hrs/wk.

This ain't no party! This is the ultimate life experience of a makeover - Are you physically, emotionally, psychologically, financially...etc., ready?

Believe me alternates will get calls within the next 40 days!

This is the time to relax.....you will have lots of time to stress once the classes start!!!!! Just kidding, you are now all up to it. :luck:

ya i know. someone said they rejected him on june 11th. he said the AdCom closed the admission process for 2007. i'm not sure if that means all of us will be receiving our rejection letter soon...

I don't know if this helps, but I got 2 calls (7/2 and 7/6) asking about my response to their acceptance. I was out of the country and didn't get the voicemails until 7/7. I get home and there's an email saying they sent out an acceptance letter on 6/12 and they're waiting for a response. I never received a letter, and I check my email religiously, so I'm not sure what they're talking about. I emailed them on 7/8 anyway and told them I hadn't received a letter, but that I'd already been accepted to USC and would like to give my spot to someone else.

I'm on the alternate list as well and I was wondering are you guys applying now for 2008? Or is it too soon since we are technically still being considered? 😕

Now is the time to reapply. Remember the sooner you apply the better chances you have. I am on the alternative list too (for 4 different schools) but I have to be honest with my self and know that the chances of my getting an admission are slim. So apply early, which means now!

any new news??? haven't heard of anyone who gotten accepted lately. hmmmm

I have pretty much given hope. I am done with my application as soon as my LOR are submitted I am submitting the application. If I get admitted now it would be a miracle and I have lost faith in miracles.

anyone know how many people got pulled off the waiting list so far? and also from last year?

Folks this is not the time to give up hope or become atheists either!

I know one person is giving up his spot next week!!!!!!!!!
Who knows one of you guys could get lucky and maybe a miracle will take place!
That doesn't mean you should not reapply.......and spill your wallets to PharmCas and the University Admissions offices!

Cheer up - you still have a decent 30 days to ponder!
And........gLuck everyone! 🙂 :luck:

Hi everyone,

I'm reapplying this year to WesternU. They said they only need 1 new LOR. So, they still keep the old ones and will read them again/ Also, how do they know which one is new on pharmcas/ Sorry my shift key is broken, I can't type question mark.

Thank you and good luck to everyone,

Smallkitty

If you're referring to the LOR, I'd talk to them. Since they require (or at least they did last year) the LORs to be sent directly to the school, you probably don't need to do one through PharmCAS specifically for Western. I'm assuming you're planning on using two of the same recommenders from last year + 1 new one.

Yes, you're right. I have one new LOR. Now, I remember. But since USC does not require LORs to be sent directly to their school, how should they know which one is new/ I emailed them but am still waiting for the reply.

Someone in the "USC supp app is so confusing" thread said that they are requiring LORs to be sent directly to the school. I haven't gone on the site to confirm it, but it may be worth your while to do so.

It seems there is a lot of activity going on at Western - many acceptees are giving up their spots! There are some 125 people on the alternate list.

Remember with four weeks to go, quite a few could be getting acceptance letters from this alternate list.

Last year about 60 ppl were pulled off ........I bet a few more will get picked this year!

BTW - this is fresh from Admissions desk. Sorry, that's all I could pull today!
Gluck! :luck: 🙂

THAT IS SUCH A REFRESHING NEWS!!!!

the 125 people where the total number of alternatives or the number of alternatives that are left on the list?

yea i agree with anh ^^
and i wonder about the same thing, too.

Unfortunately, I could not confirm any figures as that info was not available........supposedly! But the admissions office would only admit that at this time there is some heavy activity!

I have a friend who just emailed me today and said he gave up his spot this year so I know there is another hot seat available. But, as ppl are getting acceptance letters from their respective universities they are starting to make their moves favoring their choice of pharmacy school. Hence, I see quite a few people getting called or emailed to join the Fall 2007 group in the coming weeks!!

The 125 is the total number of alternates - there is no count of how many got picked from this group of alternates or how many rejected their spots. Those numbers are being kept SECRET - or highly classified!!

Anyway, I don't want to rattle your cages too much..........but any sign of hope is like a vitamin supplement that can make us all feel a tad of relief!

The fact of the matter is that more ppl will be pulled from the alternate list than last year.
😍 :luck:

THAT IS SUCH A REFRESHING NEWS!!!! u actually called them today? do u know how many they have offered acceptance already? last i heard was about 175.

oh also pharm, did they happened to say whether the 125people where the total number of alternatives or the number of alternatives that are left on the list?

Oh this gives me such hope. last month of waiting sigh...
Good Luck everyone.

I got in!!!:banana::biglove: Got the e-mail yesterday. Couldn't believe it for the longest time. I thought someone was playing a joke on me😍. Now I am really worried about money. How long does it take for the financial aid process? God I think I will have to come up with the money for the first semester on my own.

Hey, for you waitlisted people, what were your GPA's, do you think you applied strongly? lors? essay questions?

Im just wanting to compare myself with you guys who were waitlisted and see how I compare to you...

I have one more question, in the essay questions for Western, it says that what area of pharmacy interests me? Uhhh, what areas are there?

My roomate (soon to be ex-roomate) was pulled off the waitlist yesterday. He is backing out of Touro to attend Western.

Checkout the Pre-pharmacy FAQ at the top of the Pre-pharmacy forum, it has the answer to your second inquire - additionally - if you utilize the search, you would definitely get a good idea of who/what is getting into Western.

Congradulations Redrose!!!!
I'm still waitlisted at Western, USC, and Touro. Need encouragement. BTW, I think for me it's also the writing sample that messed up my file.

Congrats redrose!!! This is great news! I'm still crossing my fingers.

Congrats RedROSE! and you were just about to lose hope! =) i'm glad you are in. The registration process and everything is a !@#$% tho because it takes a while. You bascially can't register for any of the classes until you finish your physical/history form and turn everything in. The last day to register for classes is july 31st but since you're a new student there is no penalities for registering late. The financial process takes forever and again... you can't do anything until you turn in all of the stuff like the physical and history. Trust me, i ran into all of these problems and i was taken off the waitlist @ the end of june and i'm still waiting to get my financial aid processed. It sucks... everything takes forever to complete. So do everything ASAP!

Plus as a heads up... you need to take a cpr class too and since we are late comers (as intaken off the alt list) the cpr class doesn't need to be finished until sept 1st.

Also you need to complete a live scan for... intern licence and that needs to be completed by like aug 9th or something... so make the appointments to do everything asap!

Good Luck! 🙂

Thanks everyone!

Thanks siammidnitedrem for the heads up. I will register for the cpr class and get the live scan done. Can you tell me what kind of cpr class I need? I know there are different levels like ACLS, BCLS, Simple or provider. Could you tell me which one I should register for. I did the physical today and got the rest of the immunization shots. Hopefully I can get everything else done soon.

Don't lose hope. I know its easy said than done. But there is still time before school starts and its not over until then. I have heard that western can contact you even during their orientation week. keep your fingers crossed. I will keep you in my prayers.

I got in guys!! woohoo!! They called me yesterday afternoon. Now I'm worrying about all the paperwork I have to get done. Don't lose hope everyone! People are turning down their spots left and right. 🙂

Congras!!! Send in your deposit with express mail so they get it next day. Until they have your deposit your can't sign up for classes.

Hey Redrose... this is part of the email describing what type of cpr class is needed:

As part of your first year rotations, you will need to have a current CPR card. I’ve attached some information about a few places where you can get your certification. You are not required to use these options, but if you are looking for a class on your own, you will need to take a course called “Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers” which includes adult and infant CPR. Courses offered through the Red Cross or other organizations should include these options but might have a different title. If you are in doubt, just send me the course description and I will tell you if it is approved. You need to complete this requirement by September 1st.
