Hey everyone, I just got onto the Western University of Health Sciences School of Optometry alternate list. Can anyone give me an idea of my chances of getting in are? Will keeping in touch with the admissions counselors help my chances, or will I just be bothering them? Is there anything else I can do to improve my chances?

I'm getting really desperate because this is basically my only shot to get into optometry school this year....any advice or information would be appreciated

3.1 Gpa with bio sci and psychology double major
320 OAT, 330 science

Since Western and the other new schools are a fall-back choice for most good applicants, there should be several seats open up once they get accepted into an accredited school.

Do you know around when people need to make their final decisions? I mean I know the closer to August we get the more likely seats will open up, but are there any significant dates I should be on the lookout for where people will be making their final decisions"

I was on the alternative list for Western and I was notified today that I got a seat! I guess that means the list isn't very long because I had my interview about 3 weeks ago and sent in my alternative acceptance letter about 1.5 weeks ago. Hope you get new goods soon! 🙂

Congrats, may I ask what your stats were? GPA/OAT? Did you feel you did well on the interview?

I didn't think the interview was that bad. I googled around for questions that previous interviewees posted and prepared for them. I felt really good for the first four but I stumbled a lot with the last one. I thought I blew my chances but then I received a letter from them. I also read online that it was good to ask them some questions at the end of the interview so I think that helped because it made me sound interested in their program. 🙂
