Just to clarify that person that was called off the waitlist during orientation week did come to Western and she is still here and doing well! She happens to be one of my friends. Any way there were people who were pulled out of the class during orientation week due to failure of completing their pre-reqs and there was one who failed a pre-req class over the summer, and another who just decided that Western wasn't for him and actually had a spot reserved at another school (totally unacceptable to be holding two spots for that long; personally glad that student is not a part of our class with morals like that)

So there is still hope.... I believe we started with 107 or 110 students due to the students that were held back from the previous year.

Thanks for the clarification! I apologize for my mistake! And for whoever that guy was holding two spots ... to wait that long is very selfish because at that point some schools may not even bother adding another person to their class... What a waste of one space ... (two spaces if you include that guys spot).. Stuff like that angers me because people like that know exactly how hard it is to get into vet school as we all do, but they also have the pleasure and grief in deciding between multiple acceptances. so very frustrating....😡
 
I guess we shouldn't expect to hear anything til Thursday they if Karen is sending out the emails.

Yeah...def not til thursday, but not even then if those 6 havent responded by then, or if they all accepted the spots. looks like we'l all be spending a lot of time checking SDN all summer
 
Yea I'll be obsessing here and probably bugging Karen for a few weeks! This news is upsetting, so here's hoping all those people decline their offers and that a bunch of people who already accepted are on other waitlists and go to those schools instead!:xf::xf:

is anyone else super jealous that iowa has gone through over 60 waitlisters? i made myself feel a little better by doing some research on some cool internships/volunteer opportunities to improve my resume.
 
so jealous, Why oh why didn't I apply to schools that took more Out-of-Staters!??
 
i'm jealous of everyone at this point. And I'm pretty sure western is my only hope of getting in. So after hearing the sad sad news I'm really pessimistic.
 
i'm super grumpy too. i go back and forth with being depressed about it and being motivated to find things to improve my resume. if someone wants to try to call karen on thursday to get REAL information that would be wonderful...i think after calling twice in one day i have to lay low for bit 😉
 
Just spoke to a representative for Western at my school's career fair. He hasn't heard anything about the waitlist moving at all. At first I just thought maybe the wait list information was "hush husH" and only Karen and a few others new but he gave me his business card and told me to call/email him later because he was apart of "it". That is what he said... something like "call or email me because I am apart of it" ahahha i dont know. but dont you love this contradictory/lack of information us alternates have to go off of?

We will see if anything happens... but I did apply to Edinburgh... **Crossing fingers**

lol that story made me smile. that's almost a pick up line haha. definitely even funnier because clearly no one is part of "it" except karen herself! thanks for the update...if someone gets to talk to karen today i'd love to hear what she has to say!

I just called Western to find out what is going on with the waitlist, and admissions told me that the class is full and that is why they haven't taken anyone off the waitlist. This makes me sad 🙁. I can't believe so many people accepted. It seemed like so many people were rejecting and there would definitely be alternates picked. I know there is still a possibility of people rejecting late, but that would only open up, what, one or two spaces. I guess I have to start going through another round of applications. BOO👎

But why does everyone keep telling us that no one was taken off the alternate list when we know someone that was??? so that must mean all 6 people they were waiting on accepted the positions. geez! i agree, i totally thought tons of people were turning down their spots! applying sucks i dont wanna do it again waaahhhH!!!!!!!!!!!! k i'm done. for now.
 
do we think this is reliable information? I it seems that every time someone calls Western, a different answer is given.
 
Seriously this whole western process has been one big cloud of mystery! Remember the whole login fiasco!?! Has anyone talked directly to Karen? I know that Tine talked to her and she said the class is NOT full about a week ago. Now, I know that they contacted alternates because someone on sdn said they got accepted off the waitlist. I guess it's possible that all of those people accepted, but seriously we need to get this straightened out. I hate applying lol...i guess it'll be on to round 3 for me!

So anyone talk to Karen since i did a couple weeks ago? i'm afraid if i call again i'm going to get the same lady i got the last 2 times and she's gonna hate me.

Sorry, I didn't get to it today, and most likely won't get to it tomorrow. I have to work from 7:15am till 5:30pm and then drive straight to miami from orlando, FL after that! OMG tomorrow is going to suck! But I will have time to call on Wednesday 👍
 
ok i just called karen and actually spoke to her. i was asking about my outstanding prereqs, they are ending at staggered dates and i wanted to know if she thought it would help my chances if i sent a transcript every time one of my classes was complete or if i just waited til they all are. she said it wont make a difference and i should just send the transcript when they're all finished, in case you were curious 🙂. Then i of course also asked her if the class was full, and she said yes, now they will only pull people off the list if people drop their spot or are unable to finish their prereqs before school starts. there's still a chance, however tiny, so good luck and keep trying to improve your resumes :luck:

awww, thats sucks. I can't believe it's already filled and schools like Iowa are going through waitlisters in the 60s! Now I guess my only hope is LSU or else its off to Edinburgh for me! (which is not such a bad deal either, hehe)
 
Well this sucks for sure. I guess I should start gearing up for next cycle and work on revamping my PS. I'll keep crossing my fingers that people get into other schools off the waitlist or just don't end up going at all
 
If I'm accepted into a Canadian school (and I won't know until June), one of you can take my Western spot.

Hey guys... I just wanted to let you know... even though it was incredibly hard and terrifying.... I just gave up my seat at WesternU!!!!!! I have decided to go to OSU and start the Master's in Veterinary Public Health and hope I get into OSU-CVM for fall 2010. This is the biggest gamble of my life and I cannot believe I am putting vet school out of reach for another year...after I finally got in! The kids on the WesternU 2013 facebook group all seem really cool and fun (which made this an even harder decision... ahem, LLIPY!)... the only thing keeping me sane is the hope that one of you guys on this thread get my seat. I would be sooooo happy if one of you got it! Hopefully, we'll know by the end of this week...I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you! :luck::xf::luck::xf:

Wow, that was an admirable move on your part! I know exactly how you feel because I just gave up my seats at St. Matthews and Univ. Edinburgh to try again next year for the US schools. It really is a tough decision and I'm sue you put a lot of thought into it. I really do hope things work out for you at OSU. Good luck with you MPH. That's actually a really good idea and I might start my MPH as well 😀
 
Wow, TurtleLover - didn't know you gave up those seats! Definitely a bold move on both of your parts, but hey - you're improving yourselves as applicants in the meantime! I definitely think you'll get in next cycle TurtleLover - that is, if you don't get off one of the waitlists this year!
