Hello guys,

I hope all is well and your med school application process is going well for you guys.

As the title says, I'm trying to have better grasp about what GPA and MCAT range would get me the interview invites from WesternU and TouroCA.

My GPA by the time I graduate which is after June/2015 will be around 3.23 sgpa and around 3.2-3.3 cGPA.
I signed up for MCAT for September.

I think I have enough EC and leadership hours ^_^;;

I know some people don't like seeing posts like this, but I really want to and kind of need to go to WesternU or TouroCA, and I would love to know what ranges can get me an invite.

Thank you for your time reading this!

I really appreciate it!

Have a wonderful day!

Western's averages last year were about a 3.5/28

Touro-CA's averages last year were about a 3.4(?)/30.

To be sure of your chances for these two schools you will most likely want stats around or higher than these.

Hey Serenade the medical alchemist,

Thank you for your answer I really appreciate it!

Do you think if I get lets say around 32 on mcat will get me better chance in WesternU? :0

Sorry bothering you 🙁

Do you have 30 or above? Touro will be willing to do unspeakable things to have you. Western is another story. You need to be well rounded in every aspect of the application. You rarely see anyone with an sGPA of less than 3.3 or less than 26 on the MCAT. Have exceptions happened? Absolutely. I know someone with a 24 that got in. Your EC need to be strong. You are asked on secondary about research, volunteering, teaching and leadership. Hope this helps.

You're not bothering me, but yah. Hit a 32 and you'll be fine, but yah.. expect a few months of hardcore study for that type of score.

Thank you Mr.Albinohawk DO for your input.

I would like to list my EC and would like your opinion if you don't mind. ^___^;;

Clinical Care Extender as a volunteer 2012 Jan-2014 Jan. about 700hours
Leadership team in CCE from 2012 Aug-2013 Feb about 300 hours
Conversation partner with Foreign students 20hours and on going
Research 2012-present
Shadowed some doctors so far through an organization
Optometry club for two quarters
Worked as biotech for almost a year

I feel like I need to do more non clinical community service,what do you think?
I'm planning on shadowing more doctors through this organization as well.

Thank you for your time!

You look solid for me. If your shadowing hours already exceed 100, there's no need for more. Western doesn't require and has accepted students without a DO letter, but they do appreciate it when it's there.

Does Touro really overlook a low GPA if you have a >30 mcat?

I got interview invites from both for the 2013-2014 cycle. My stats were 3.4 cum/3.57 science and 28 balanced MCAT. Good Luck.

Are we talking 3.4/3.5 cumulative or sGPA?

I interviewed at both for the 2013/2014 cycle with cGPA&sGPA 3.3 and MCAT 27 (8/10/9).

I agree with this. Touro-Ca is not very forgiving if your GPA is below 3.0 or MCAT below 27. COMP is less numbers-driven and I think they put more weight on the interview.

The better question is how would you decide between both if accepted.

3.3 cGPA, 3.5 sGPA 28 mcat. Got interviews at both and multiple other schools and got accepted to western (never went to my Touro interviews). Turn in your apps early, have an interesting story, get a DO letter of rec with some shadowing and things will be ok. Pomonas campus has higher stats but since both schools are treated as one they average the scores of both campuses until Lebanon gets accredited. But still, as you can see by my example your life experiences do make a difference, just write your essays well and hit on the major themes that are important for DO schools, not the bullcrap cliches "i wanna help others""i want to be a DO because they look at the patient holistically". That junk rarely flies and shows who actually cares enough about going to DO school to do their research
