I am trying to decide between WesternU DOPNW and LECOM-Eerie PBL. (I am on the WL for MCW-MKE but want to plan for the current options) The big things I am concerned about is:
1. Research opportunities (I am working as a clinical research coordinator and want to stay connected to research - I may have options to continue with the team I work with now but want to understand my options)
2. Competitiveness for residency (I am not sure exactly what I want to do maybe internal med with or without fellowship and do not want to close any doors at this point.)
3. Clinical rotations, the way people talk about navigating rotations in DO schools makes it sound really intimidating

WesternU DOPNW
Pros
- I am already on West Coast and went to undergrad in Portland closer to family and friends
- More flexibility w/ asynchronous lectures
- P/F grading

Cons
- More expensive
- Such a tiny city

LECOM
Pros
- Significantly cheaper
- Year long clinical rotation sites

Cons
- Far away from family and friends
- Professional dress code
- High level of time required in-person
- Traditional letter grades

Do they have substantially different start dates while you wait for MCW?

If you have substantial amount of family and friends in Portland, then that is a benefit. LECOM used to have an in-house residency for ortho which was unique, but that closed down. You have to see how much you value the cost savings.
