Anyone applying to WesternU MSMS fall 2015?

Do they have a set criteria for the linkage?

I am! Do you know when they send out interview invites?

I believe you need to have maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better in the program. I'm not sure if they have a minimum requirement for MCAT

Is it too late to apply here?

No minimum requirement, but it's 24 for a competitive candidate from what I saw on their website.

Does anyone know how safe the area around the school here? I heard the city wasn't safe at all so would like for someone to weigh in.

The first batch of interviews for this program was Dec. 16th. I am waiting on the next interview date supposedly sometime in January

I was complete early December. Does anyone know if they have sent out interviews for January yet. I am sure the holidays slowed up the review process. Hoping to get an interview here as I live very close and have a great support system behind me here.

Have people been accepted after the first batch of interviews? I'm waiting on my last letter of recommendation before I can submit. Hoping I can get in the 2nd batch of interviews.

Anyone know when the second round if interviews is? Haven't submitted my application just yet, I'm also waiting on one more letter of recommendation, so just curious!

Pomona is not a safe area. But I'm sure there are some areas in Pomona that current students know about that are somewhat safe. I live in neighboring city (many neighboring cities r safe) for 20+ yrs and I would never live in Pomona.

Has anyone been accepted yet, or received an interview date? If so, how long did it take to hear from them? My application was complete about 10 days ago. It's a rolling admission so just wondering how many people have made it so far.

Hey guys I interviewed on January 24th. Got an email today that I was placed on "hold". Did anyone else get accepted, rejected or placed on hold from this interview date or the previous interview date in December.

Hey guys, I have a question for you all applied.
I am planning on applying for med schools next year June. But I am also thinking about applying MSMS at Westernu as well. If I were to do well, would that give me guaranteed admission still? I heard from many peoplease that they performed well and matriculated at Western U programs.

Depends on your definition of safe. The real crime here is mainly stolen goods. They can steal a spare tire or break into your car. During daylight, I wouldn't have a problem walking the streets. At night, it might get more iffy. Many students live at the helix/daumier/777 and haven't experienced troubled (physical). Don't worry about walking campus at any time though. I've walked it at 3am without trouble. There are also escorts if you feel it will enhance your safety.

At this point I think they have interviewed around 24 people or so. Not sure if anyone has got an acceptance yet.

ONLY 24? that definitely makes me feel a whole lot better about the entire waiting process.

There is no guaranteed admission to COMP as you have to go through the same interview process as other applicants, and the number of seats available for MSMS students range from 15-17 - I would ask during the interview to make sure since linkage process changes frequently. In general, if you do well in the program, have a valid MCAT score above minimum threshold, and nail the D.O. interview (very important), you will matriculate at COMP. Good luck!

I interviewed on Jan 24 and found out I was accepted a couple of days ago.

Congrats. Do u know if they have any regional preference like do they prefer students graduated from CA schools? Can I also ask your stats if possible?

Nice congrats. Were you notified by email or phone. Looks like people are getting accepted early on then.

Thanks! They sent me an email.

According to their website there are no regional preference, and they didn't tell us anything different.
3.2 overall, 3.5 science, 23 MCAT

Your gpa looks good, why not just retake the mcat or can you get away without a retake with the msms?

I also interviewed Jan. 24th and got accepted last Thursday

I actually did retake it. I'm still waiting for them to release my scores.

Sorry my question was more along the lines of why not apply straight up to westerns DO schoil after you retake the mcat instead of doing the msms? You have a 3.5 science gpa which doesn't need the gpa healing of an smp

I could have done that, assuming that my retake scores will be competitive, but the program offers more than just GPA improvement. It would help a non-traditional non-science major applicant, such as myself, who has been out of undergraduate school for a long time build an even stronger application package.

Also the possibility of linkage to the DO school and no "gap" year is a plus!

Just wondering...how long of a heads up did they give you guys before the 24th interview date? Has only one interview date passed? Does anyone know if there's a later date this month?

There's only 1 interview so far, and they often let you know a week in advance. There are 2 more scheduled for March and April as far as I know, and there are usually more interviewees (30-40 each) for these 2 as well.

There was one interview in December also

Do you happen to know what the "MCAT score threshold" is?

^^ Similar question as previous.
Let's say if I get into this program with a 24 MCAT, would they make me retake again? What is the appropriate MCAT to have to be considered for the linkage?

Oh oops I wasn't aware of the one in December in the email they sent me, but they've been interviewing about 90 candidates and accepting ~30 the past 2 cycles, so the odds are pretty good if you get an interview.

Regarding the MCAT score threshold, as I have mentioned before, the linkage agreement is revised yearly with COMP, so it is best for you to ask your interviewer for the specifics. For my year (class of 2014) the MCAT score required was well below 24, you just need to make sure it will still be valid by the time linkage app rolls around (will be Dec-Jan 2016 for your class).

The administration was incredibly helpful when I had questions about my app, if you can get an appointment to talk with the program director - i'd highly recommend it. There is also a facebook page (MSMS prospective student Q&A) that you can utilize - lots of alumni and some faculties are members of that group.

If they accept about 30 of the students that they interview every cycle and there are four interview cycles (December, January, March, April), does that mean the class size is about 100? Just basing it off of what I read above! And if the next interview cycle is in March, should we expect receive some sort of notification email some time next week?

I believe what @baochuongm1 meant was that out of the past 2 application cycles. check out their website for data

Hey guys, does anyone know how filled the class is at this point? I understand that I am past the deadline :( but would still like to apply.

2 Q's
-Does getting in/rejected have any baring on the DO school later on? (I would hate to use up the LOR's I've been saving for the actual DO program or does that even matter?)
-Is a low MCAT retake required despite successful completion of this program?

Thank you guys

For those of you still waiting for the results, please post it here when you get the interview invite. This wait is killing me. Grrrr....

The admissions process for each program are separate, I really don't think one has weight on the other. That may be on the website faqs

Yeah. I think the programs (and the admission committees too I guess) are from different schools. MSMS is from biomedical sciences graduate school and COM is obviously their medical school.

Did anyone get an interview in February yet?

The waiting is killing me as well! I was told earlier this year that they weren't going to hold interviews in Feb. I believe the next interview will be in March and another in April.
