So, I checked my mail today and there was a letter from detroit mercy. My first thought: "Either this is an interview invite or rejection." The answer: Neither. It was actually an invitation to an 'open house'.

I just thought it was a big tease...did this happen to anyone else? 😀

yeah... see a few forums below 🙂

I got the same thing. It's hard for me to justify going to Detroit unless they were calling me for an interview.

but don't you thinkn in a way if you show up to the open house show your interest in the school and boost yourself a bit?

It could be but they've already decided early who to interview. Also given the huge number of applicants that later invites may be just for the wait list.

totally agree! i got so excited yesterday when i saw mail from them because i have heard nothing thus far but now that I have the invite I don't know if its worth the long flight? Is it really going to increase our chances?? even if you get the chance to talk to an adcom are they really going to remember your name from the 100s they meet that day?

also, are you guys sending in that little postcard if you're not going? i don't know if its a good idea to remind them of the fact that i'm not going but i don't want to be rude either...any suggestions?

if you decide not to go, and DO get an interview, act like you are on first name basis with the person interviewing you and say how you guys really had a nice talk at the open house and how interested you were in the school 🙂

The thing that I found weird is I got the open house invite, but my application was sent out in end of August/early September and its the only school than hasn't acknowledge receipt of my application. This happen to anybody else?

yea i haven't gotten much contact from them either other than this open house mailing. Anyone go last year and thought it was beneficial to fly out just for this?

Unless you life in Detroit suburbs, you should not waste your time going and definitive not fly there. I did not attend the open house. I think it had no negative impact. It could potentially help but very little. If you live out of area, I think they will understand you not attending.

Tease #2: I got a TWO letters in the mail from detroit mercy (one was a rather large envelope). Since I've only heard back from 2 of the schools that I have applied to, a third interview invite would've made me really happy. But no, it was a letter saying they have started to look at my application and the large envelope was a folder with information about the school.

Me too! Ha earlier in the week I was like "uh oh, its small" (typically bad) and this time I was so excited I was getting a big package (typically good) but, again, no invite. Oh well, at least I know they have my application and will probably be reviewing it "soon," as opposed to some schools where I still have not heard a peep.

Hey Guys,

I really don't think going to the open house has any inpact on your application. I ent last year and basically they just talk to you as a huge group about their application proceedures and then you break off into groups with D3/D4 students and they give you a quick tour of the school. Which by the way they are moving to a new school in Jan so basically ur getting a tour of a school YOU WONT BE GOING TO!

Also, the admissions there told me 2 days ago they didn't dtart reviewing applications until MID-SEPT and will continue to review them in order of when they arrived. So don't fret you guys haven'[t heard anything yet -- u prob wont for some time. They are known to be slow with their admissions.

Hey thanks for the feedback...saves me some worrying!

You may have received the open house invite because you submitted your DAT score to them (assuming you took it pre-August). It might just be an automatic thing.
