Is there anyone else that has been accepted to a school and does not know what to do for the next eight months? it would be fun to see who is doing the most interesting thing in the coming months?

I am really happy I was accepted but now I feel like I am in a time bubble and it is standing still. I have nothing to do....Oh no wait I do have things to do......I do still have to pack up this house, sell this house, buy a new house, find my husband a job, MOVE, set my kids up in new schools, change address on all bills, open new accounts, find doctors for the family, find a vet for the dogs, etc......................................................


Then why, with all that am I sitting here playing computer games and reading posts on SDN?????😛 😛 😛

Go on vacation! I've promised myself a 4 month trek through New Zealand (where I've spent time before) if I have enough time b/t when I get accepted, and when school starts.

You're gonna drop off the face of the earth when med school starts! Get out there while you still can...

we actually are kicking around the thought of a family trip to New Zealand next summer. Since we are Lord of the Rings fans and they filmed all that beautiful scenery in the movie, well... it peaked our interest.

My husband teaches mammalogy and is planning on taking a summer class to South Africa on safari. I'm working on convincing him to take the kids and me along....but OUCH! The airfare is SO expensive. And now is NOT the right time to discuss finances, with my recent $1000 deposit to KCOM.

Other than that, I'd like to take a month off and go back to Texas, see Big Bend, and visit my family down there.

(That $1000 deposit being due in December is pretty crappy timing for those of us with children...Santa is having a lean month!)

how arduous was the acceptance process at OSU? They're my second choice behind TCOM. I've seen their stats for what you need to even be looked at, not necessarily the average of the incoming class and I meet those. How was the process?

BTW- I'm busily hunting a DO to give me a recommendation and with HIPPA, I'm having trouble shadowing one. However, two MDs that know me say I have what it takes to make a great doctor (their words). So will OSU be cool with that or do they want the DO?

this is true... there are doctors available to shadow and HIPPA really does not affect their ability.... that is if they want for you to shadow... I suggest contacting DO's out of the phone book in the primary specialties... (possibly more likely to allow you to shadow, but not always true)

Also, i suggest that you begin getting really serious about what you want to do as a physician and research and learn about that area... then find a DO in that area and ask to shadow... tell them.... "I just need a couple hours... like 8 to noon or whatever you are able to accomodate."

Obviously it would be nice to shadow a DO for a day, couple days, off and on for a month.... etc... but it is NOT likely to get the longer periods.

I know you will be fortunate...
