Hi guys,

I've been out of school for a while, California Resident, non-URM, Age 27. Need some advice...
cGPA: 3.4 sGPA: 3.2 MCAT: 28

ECs

- Extensive research experience
- EMT Fire Department/ER Tech/ED Scribe
- Tutor

VOLUNTEERING
- Clinical (200+ hours) - current
- Non-clinical (80+ hours) - current

Good letters of recs.

What are my chances? Any advice will be welcomed. Thank you!

You should be fine for many DO schools. Apply in June and submit your secondaries by July. Also apply broadly to at least 20 schools. Your chances for MD are much lower but it may be worth applying to schools such as Quinnipiac, New York Medical, Albany, Oakland Beaumont, Western Michigan, Rosalind Franklin, Rush and any new private MD schools that open in 2016.

Seems like you're a standard deviation away from accepted applicants in both GPA and MCAT for MD. DO is a much better shot and you should be fine if you apply to a mix of top DOs like PCOM and some less prestigious ones.

That sGPA is going to hurt you for MD schools, especially combined with that MCAT.

For DO schools, you're fine.

Really appreciate the advice guys! After being on the fence for the past year and a half, I'm ready to take the plunge. I may retake the new MCAT depending on how well I do on the practice exams..

Any school-specific things I should take note of for DO schools beside the fact that a few specifically require a recommendation from a DO?

Cheers!
