Hello Everyone,
I have recently decided to convert to the pre-medical track (as of last year). I have no problem going into a DO program versus an MD program, assuming that I can get into either, but would prefer an MD.
Stats:
Major: Electrical Engineering at the University of Connecticut
Year: Incoming Junior
3.4 cGPA
3.3 sGPA
MCAT: Haven't taken yet, but based on the practice that i've done I will estimate between a 26 and a 31, with a less than optimal writing score. Let's call it a 26 for arguments sake. I'd rather low ball it.
EC's:
-Paid Internship at a multi-million $ pharmaceutical company the summer of my freshman year
-Shadowed an Anesthesiologist for ~30 hours, and will try as hard as I can to find another doctor to shadow before I apply.
-Volunteered ~100 hours at a local hospital
-Member of UConn Pre-Medical Society
-Student Management at a dining hall that employs roughly 200 students. The job entails giving shift assignments to employees, ensuring smooth dining hall operation, administering discipline, writing employee evaluations, etc.
-Member of UConn Sigma Alpha Lambda Honors Society.
-Habitat for Humanity - 4th year, including time in HS - Went to NC to build houses for those in need.
-If things go well I'll have a LOR from the Anesthesiologist, and now that i'm in smaller classes I am sucking up to my professors more to get at least 2 LORs out of them. Also, I might get one of my bosses from my internship to write me a LOR.
It's worth noting that I don't really care how highly or lowly ranked the school is, or the location of the school, as long as I can get in SOMEWHERE, with a relative degree of certainty.
Also any recommendations on how to improve my chances (other than applying early and broadly)?
Thanks in advance!
