MCAT = 32
sGPA= 3.5
cGPA= 3.6

Major: Electrical Engineering
Minor: Chemistry

Volunteer work :

- Around 50 hours at hospital
- Over 150 hours of tutoring in an organization
- Shadowed 2 doctors about 60hrs together
- I do volunteer work at my church also. Never kept track of any hours.

Other EC:

- I am member of about 4 honor societies (3 are engineering ones).
- Elected officer in 3 student organizations ( V.P. in all of them).
- I have done research (6 months) involving biology/engineering/and minor chemistry.
- have built my own EKG & EMG in school for classes.

Can anyone give me a hint where should I apply & and honestly what are my chances.

Thanks 🙂

Two follow-up questions.
What is the breakdown of your MCAT?
What is your state of residence?

Your numbers and ECs are pretty average. You should be able to get in somewhere.

You're about to start your senior year and applying next year, I assume?

Get an MSAR to figure out what schools to apply to. It depends on what state you live in and where you want to end up. You probably want to apply to about 20-25 schools and you could definitely throw a couple reaches in there.

Good luck.

You will get in at DO with your stats, which are way above DO average). For MD, you have an excellent chance because your stats are about average.

Pick up an MSAR. Apply broadly. Pick 15 schools with a 30-33 average matriculant MCAT. Then pick a few dream schools.

Make sure you write a very good PS about why you want to be a doctor. Your application is strong, but seems to most strongly point towards your success / interest in engineering, not medicine. I certainly don't doubt you want to be a doctor, but make sure you can articulate why you want to be a doctor. As long as your PS is a good one and you have good enough LOR's, you will find your way to several acceptances.

Numbers-wise, you'd have about a 70% chance of an MD acceptance. However, my experience with someone applying to all the schools in Ohio with the same amount of clinical experience that you have (and a higher cGPA) was universal rejection. The following year with another year of clinical experience, he got in everywhere but Case. I urge you to add considerably to your clinical experience before you apply (like triple it). Hopefully, you were planning to apply in June 2011.

Your teaching and shadowing are fine. You have nonmedical community service, which is excellent. Your leadership is very good. And that you tried research for awhile is a benefit to your application.
