Hi Everyone,

I took the MCATs once already and got a 35. My GPA was a 3.48 in college with a biochemistry major. I recently graduated and will be taking a gap year and applying next fall. My experiences include 3 6-month research internships (Columbia University, Massachusetts General Hospital, Genzyme) and currently doing a 6 month research opportunity abroad in Israel. I have been a volunteer ski patroller for the past 3 years as well. I believe my research is strong (2+ total years in fields of HIV, Alzheimers, Cystic Fibrosis, muscle atrophy) and I will be part of a nice publication with my current research. I also worked as a medical aide for 5 months. I also have some professional experience unrelated to science/medicine.

Do I have a chance for the top tier schools? Any advice or expertise you can give me?

Thanks in advance,

med school hopeful

3.48 is low for medical school (average accepted is ~3.7), but that MCAT is impressive. So are the research experiences.

Apply broadly, top, mid and low tier schools. Awesome MCAT and research. 3.48 with a biochem major is not a death sentence. You'll get in somewhere I'm sure 🙂

thank you for the average gpa I assumed it was a bit lower. I'm hoping this is enough to get me some solid interviews as I'd like to think I do very well with interviews

fmpak93 thanks for the advice and encouragement! Definitely appreciate it
