What are my chances guys?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So i took my DAT, and here is what i got: QR-15, Bio-17, GenCHem-18, OCHEM-19, ReadC-18, and PAT-26.
Math pulled me down a bit, so my AA -17, TS-18.
My GPA is 3.8 for both science and overall. English is my second language so it was kinda hard to figure some crap out on reading comp, but i guess its not terrible.
Biology asked me some a lot of weird stuff that ive never seen before (i am a biology major, ironically )
So, here is some info about me if that would help, im from Ukraine, came to US in 2005, after highschool. Ive done ceramics for 6-7 years back in Ukraine, shadowed Dentists, volanteered some.
Please, let me know what you guys think?
Thanks a lot!😉

GPA is super awesome, I suggest a retake. Your DAT score is below national average.

To be brutally honest, you have to retake the exam... a 17AA and a 18TS is not gonna be good enough for dental schools in my opinion. In addition since you are a biology major, you should aim for at least a 20 on the bio section since it is your major. I mean im a psychology major and i got a 20 on biology, so you just have to prep some more. QR is not as important, but you should have at least a 16 in that section. Try to get at least a 20 on all science sections and you should be good to go, but definitely retake. (btw great PAT score)

Nice GPA. I guess I would retake the exam. With a 3.8 I'm not gonna say you don't have a shot though. By the way, you are a perceptual ability machine. I guess you have the bionic eye necessary to differentiate 3 degree angle differences.

Thank you guys for your feedback, just praying God that ill get couple interviews and get a chance to charm them in person, lol 🙂

Boggles my mind how someone with a 3.8 sGPA gets an 18TS. I suggest retaking the DAT. Good luck.

Boggles my mind how someone can score a 24AA and have a 2.5 GPA; I've seen it, although rare. To the OP, retake is a must, sorry...

Dude, they asked me 10 questions on invertebrate embryology! in my course of bios i dont remember going over it a bit. no excuses tho, i needed to do better

Yes, I'm one of those people. At least for me, my 2.9 is from going to a competitive undergrad and undertaking a very challenging major.

How do you guys think the adcoms interpret a low GPA and an above average DAT score? Would they be kind enough to think it is owing to a difference in course difficulty? Or would they rather assume you got damn lucky in a one-time exam?

It was five years between when I graduated with a business degree and when I went back to school. The dean at a few schools told me they didn't care what I did six years ago. All the Texas schools(which I reside) told me "no, your cGPA is too low". So I will definitely be going out of state.

Maybe I'm the minority opinion, but I think you can get away with score like that and a GPA like yours. Although, a re-take would not be a bad idea. Scoring better in the sciences couldn't hurt you.

MAYBE if he/she is a URM...but that's really the only case.

Takes a lot of luck to score in the 99th-100th percentile on 6 different sections.

Unfortunately, this is what standardized tests are for. Your 3.8 gpa looks great, but with low scores, it implies your school wasn't very tough. Where did you go?

I don't agree. Are you saying that all students that have a difficult curriculum in their undergrad score well on the DAT?

hes saying that a 3.8 cannot be backed up with aa 17 or 18. which makes sense. 3.8 gpa implies your very smart, but that sort of an aa implies your average or below average. in simpler terms, its means you turned on your car blinker to turn left, but made a right turn. meaning it looks bad.

some ppl aren't standardized test takers.. his GPA is high not because he goes to an easy school.. but because hes overall a intelligent person. Dude.. I would suggest a retake if your not a URM..

To say anything about his grades and DAT would merely be speculation, which is what adcoms do so I see nothing wrong with it. Typically, a 3.8 is a 3.8 BUT when they see a DAT of 17, they WILL look more into it. I'm not saying he for sure went to an easy school, but adcoms may think that. If they see his school and realize that's not the case, it'll still be questionable.

Similarly, a low GPA with a high DAT leaves them to question why their GPA was so low.

Personally, I think a high GPA and low DAT looks worse than a low GPA and a high DAT but it all depends...as usual
