So these are my stats:

GPA 3.93
sGPA 3.9
DAT
AA 22 TS 22 BIO 22 CHEM 22 ORG 24 PA 20 QR 20 RC 22

Shadowing 50 but hopefully 100 by application time (2 GPs and maybe a specialist)
EC
3 years of research (didn't do much but I did do a poster presentation)
230 hours of hospital volunteer
I mentored for 2 years
I had a job for 2 years

What do you think of my chances. Should I wait another year to gain some dental experience? Also, I am a little shy so I am worried about interviewing if I even get that far.

Please don't comment if you are going to be rude.

Okay, I am very sorry to ask this. But I feel like my situation is a little different. So I was premed for 4 years because I just stuck to wanting to be an OB-GYN ever since I was young. Then I shadowed one, and I didn't like it one bit. Nonetheless, I still stuck with being premed since I assumed I would like some specialty. One thing for sure was that I had no motivation to apply for medical school. I took the mcat and barely studied, I got a 26. I submitted my primary application for medical school but didn't go through. I then knew I should pursue something else. Not because of my MCAT score but because I had no motivation or thrill. After graduating this past May 2014, I shadowed a dentist and really liked the profession. It was for multiple reasons why I liked it, but I decided to apply to dental school this past september 2014. So now I'm skimping on trying to apply this June. I also have two gap years, where much of this past year was spent vacationing and doing nothing other than taking on science course... I was kind of bummed that I didn't know what to do.

My writing is terrible so I know my personal statement will not be great. I really want to go to UIC dental school and I am an illinois resident. All in all, I don't mind going to any dental school but would prefer to go to an Illinois dental school.

You'll get an interview at UIC.
Work on your shyness.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I applied to UIC medical school but never completed the application. Wont this lessen my chance for UIC dental school? Also, all my shadowing hours are done with in a month, does this look bad?

When you apply for dental schools, the application will ask if you have ever previously or are currently applying to any other health profession and to list what health profession(s), the schools, and if you've ever been accepted/enrolled.

With your stats, i doubt UIC dental would turn you down for an interview regardless.

Yes, shadowing within a short time frame looks bad. Doesn't matter now.

You are the millionth pre med student on here this week that has noped out of medicine. Be sure that you are going into dentistry for the right reasons. Dental schools are notoriously expensive so be sure to look before you leap.

Thanks for replying, and sorry this has been asked before.

You'll be fine dude. Awesome gpa and dat scores. I had similar stats (3.9, 23aa), and got interviews almost everywhere I applied to. I was a premed to predent switch too, although I wanted to do family medicine.

I didn't mention any of my premed shadowing hours, and I also got all of my dental shadowing hours in 1 month.

Lots of people on here that will proof read your personal statements and critique it. So if you don't mind sending it to random strangers, you might have a more polished personal statement.

A tip about the shyness... Look people in the eye confidently. Stare them down if you have to. Just don't be the first to turn away.

Dude, better start working on your interview skills then, I know a guy who had same stats as yours, 3.9gpa and 23 AA, got 15 interviews, and no acceptances, cause he was kind of a weirdo and shy. sooo either take a couple shots before you go to your interview, or do whatever it takes to get you to get out of your comfort zone.

Oh God, when I read your comment, I laughed. Then I thought about it, and yea I can see that happening to me. I'll definitely work on that.
Thanks!

Thanks for your comment!
You see I think I'm just worried because of my whole taking the MCAT and applying to medical school.
Other than that, I know I'm competitive. Did they ask you about switching when you interviewed? Also, do they even know about applying, like can't I lie? If you don't mind me for asking.

I never applied to med school so I was never asked about it. Be honest with them when they ask. Don't lie. Say you were never exposed to dentistry, and that once you shadowed and explored the profession, you realize it is something you see yourself doing.
