What are my chances at a good Chicago Allopathic program? I go to a DO school:
-bottom 25%
-198/81 USMLE
-408/76 COMLEX
-some research

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that doesn't bode well for you. Honestly you're not going to get in.

I disagree.

While the OP may not have his choice of residency, I think that he has a good shot esp. if he applies broadly to both DO and MD schools

take a lot at the NRMP stats...a 198 on step 1 still puts you in a good position to match SOMEWHERE

oh so the question is about chicago allopathic program? thats a little tricky and i honestly don't know or see how anyone else can say with definite certainty

NRMP stats for US MD's or independent applicants (DO's and IMG's)?
It seems like allopathic programs expect DO's to have higher scores but I'm not sure what the real world consensus on that is, since both are technically US grads and a 198 should mean the same thing, at least to SOME program director.

i'm glad to see there is some hope of me matching. i'd love to move back to chicago but i will definitely apply broadly. if anyone has any info plz PM me!

You can match somewhere. I don't know what you mean by a 'good' Chicago Allopathic program. AFAIK, there are 5 programs: Rush, Chicago, UIC, Northwestern and Loyola. You may have a shot at UIC or Loyola, but the other 3 are out of your reach. I don't think you'll match at any of the 5 programs above, but will match at an Allo program somewhere. Good luck!

Since this same question was posted by the same person in IM, EM, and Neurology, I will answer in all three. You dont have a chance at Neurology and EM. If it were just your board score, maybe....but you are in the bottom quartile of your class, you are an osteopath (which unfortunately, means getting an allopathic residency is intrinsically more difficult), and your board score is low. Furthermore, your dedication to EM, IM, and Neurology is in question as you cannot commit to any of them as a calling. I would strongly suggest looking into community based programs for Psych, Peds, FM, and IM.

Cross posting the exact same text in multiple forums isn't just poor form, it is against the SDN terms of service. Thread closed.
