I have 3.8 GPA and 29 MCAT. good shadowing and volunteering/medical research experience. I have appied most of Florida schools. I haven't got any interview yet. I am very concerned. I know my mcat is low and I am planning to rewrite next year if I don't get in this year. Any chance at all this year?

I am assuming you are a Florida resident. I can't say anything about your chances without more information about your application - you will just have to wait it out till the end of the interview season. Have you gotten any rejections or has the schools just been silent?

In case you are reapplying, you need to improve your application well. So get more clinical experience, improve the MCAT (atleast by 2-3 points) and show that you haven't wasted the year.

Are your MCAT subscores balanced?

When were all your applications Complete, with all requested materials submitted?

Any leadership, teaching, nonmedical community service?

Any possible red flags on LORS?

Any past institutional action or legal issues?

Did multiple in-the-know readers approve your Personal Statement?

When were all your applications Complete, with all requested materials submitted?
>>Everything was completed, and I even called the schools for confirmation.

Any leadership, teaching, nonmedical community service?
>>I have been a TA for Systems Neuroscience.

>>I have held several leadership positions within the ethnic Undergraduate Community at the University of Florida, starting from freshman year. This continued with me moving into higher leadership positoins, finally culminating in Vice Presidency of the largest student run ethnic organization on campus. This is a proud point for me, and was well represented on my application.

>>I'm not sure if research is qualified under this question?

Any possible red flags on LORS?

>>None. These are the folliwng letters of recommendation, for background:

1.) principal investigator of the lab. (1.5 years)
2.) leader of my palliative volunteer program (1.5 years)
3.) neuroscience professor 1
4.) neuroscience professor 2 (TA'ed for this one!)
5.) shadowing professional (pediatric surgeon)
6.) principal investigator of my 11th grade lab (3 months spent researching at government institution on drug abuse)
7.) Art teacher
8.) Peer (this was for a 1 school, specifically)

None of these professionals and mentors should have anything bad to say about me. I scored no lower than an A in any of their classes.

Any past institutional action or legal issues?
>>None

I had my palliative care director read the personal statment (she's been reading them for quite some time) and an earlier draft (which led to the one used now) was edited by an undergraduate advisor.

I haven't received any rejection letters either.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys!!

I think catalystik was asking when your applications were complete, not just whether they were.

Research doesn't count as a community service (if that is what you were asking). Service to the underprivileged is the only lack I see among your ECs. If you had less than 50 total shadowing hours, you might beef that area up too, being sure to have a primary care doc among those shadowed.

What I was getting at, was were your applications sent in late. If you became Complete after September 1, chances start to diminish.

Other than that, which you didn't answer, your answers were mostly reassuring and you should still have a chance this season.

As StoicJosher said, though, just in case you end up reapplying, be sure to continue improving your application. This can help you during this season, too, if you are allowed to send in update letters about your activities. try to find a cause you care about and give it some of your time:
Meals on Wheels, homeless or women's shelter, soup kitchen, food pantry, crisis hotline, after school tutoring of kids or ESL for adults, Big Brother/Big Sister, Special Olympics or coaching athletic programs for the physically disabled, helping with a scout troop or other youth group, providing enrichment classes in a poor school (eg, science demonstrations or health topics), Habitat for Humanity, or Humane Society are examples. Try to give your time on a regular basis, ideally weekly or twice monthly.

Hi, sorry, I misread that. The applications were sent in August.

UF student with very similar stats and with no interviews either. PM me if you have any questions, I have a DO acceptance in my pocket but I'm hoping for some MD love too!
