I have an undergraduate GPA of 3.2 I majored in biology, I am considering taking the DAT and applying to dental schools. If I got a 19-20 score what are my chances of getting into dental school. I took the MCAT before got 26: 10 PS; 6 VB; 10 BS. I think if I studied enough I could do well on the DAT.

Study hard and take plenty of practice tests and you will score well. Dont neglect the PAT nor the math section. If you BCP and science GPA stay above a 3.0 when AADSAS calculates, you score a 19-20 on the DAT, you apply early, you apply to 10 schools, you interview well and have 30 hours of shadowing experience, your chance of getting in is 100%.

Did you apply to Med schools last year or this year and you're now thinking dental as an alternative?

If you are a med reject, there will be tougher questions for you at the interviews.

Dude, no offense but I assume you threw the MCAT score so others can see that and compare that to DAT. Just because you took MCAT and score 26, that doesn't mean 19 or 20 is a sure thing for you.

Take the advice from J2AZ and stop asking about your chances unless you are a desperate female reproductive organ.

I think there is a myth that if you score a 27-30 on the MCAT it translates to like a 24 on the DAT or something. That is what some friends of mine seem to think. I would love to see the correlation between MCAT and DAT scores, that would be interesting. Also, there is never a guarantee. Yes if you have a 3.0 and 21's across the board you will have a good chance of getting in. But this assumes you have good recommendations, shadowing experience, and interviewing skills.

... and apply very early. That would make the chances 110%.

Here is a little tip for you my friend: apply to both dental and medical schools. Since you've already rocked that MCAT, DAT should be a piece of cake for you then 😉 At least if you don't get into a med school, some dental school will take you, right?! 😉

So... why dentist, anyways?

You'd be fine with a 19/20. Just make sure that you do some shadowing and understand what dentistry is all about. I know, I know, not all dentists can clear a tall building in a single bound, bend steel with their teeth, or wear a snappy spandex uniform - so do your homework and best of luck! 👍

It's ok if someone is considering all of their options. In fact it's a smart thing to do. I know someone who took mcat and got 30 and 22 on dat. He applied to both and got no med interviews but got into all the dental schools he applied to. He says it's cause he took the aug mcat and his apps were late...who knows. Either way, you could save yourself time and money if you decide before applying to both.

I took the MCAT a few years ago and got a 27 (10/9/8) and a Q in writing. When I took the DAT I got a 24AA. I don't think that my MCAT was anything above average (maybe 60th percentile) but the DAT was 99.8 percentile. I liked the format of the DAT a lot better and I studied for it probably about 6 or 7 times as long. I have a friend who I work with that scored a 37 the first time she took the MCAT and a 42 the second time, now that is impressive.

if you get a 37 on the mcat the first time.... why on earth would you take it the second time. With a 37 you can pretty much get into any school you want. I also know someone who took the MCAT got a 30, had a change of heart and decided they wanted to become a dentist, took the DAT and got a 27.

She took her first MCAT about half way through her sophmore year 5 years ago. She is now finishing up her masters in public health and applying to schools. She said she has full ride offers from 4 or 5 schools including stanford and columbia. She is a pretty bright cookie, unfortunately she makes it known also.

Isnt it like people tend to take the MCAT first and then the DAT?
Therefore, it is much easier to study for the DAT after studying for the MCAT

Obviously, if you dont like to memorize DAT sucks or if you dont like reading comp. MCAT sucks.
to me 27in MCAT ~ 19 in DAT

35 MCAT ~ 23 in DAT

Buddy, you're delusional. Or maybe you're just in denial like a lot of other people. The DAT is an absolute joke compared with the MCAT. Oh man, how could you even compare the two - MCAT is so much harder, and its curve is pretty demoralizing. This guy got 26 on the MCAT; he's gonna do really well on the DAT.

I think Tuscon's experience is pretty realistic. 27MCAT ~24 AA on DAT
