my overall GPA is 3.1 and my sciences GPA is also about 3.1. One of the reasons it is kind of low is because I am about to complete pharmacy school and obtain a pharmD degree at a really competitive pharmacy university. I also had to work on the weekends to be able to afford the education.

My MCAT score is 33.

I just wanted to know what are my chances of getting into MD or DO school if I do choose to apply.

You should be competitive for some DO schools as long as you apply broadly to at least 15 schools. For MD you may have a chance at your state public schools. It is possible you may need to retake the MCAT as your old score may not be accepted at some schools for 2018.

Thx for answering. Should I consider post bach or do ou think I can get in with out it?

If your new MCAT score is at least 508 (30 on old MCAT) you should be able to receive DO interviews. Even 505 would be acceptable for some of the new schools.

Wait, not that it makes much difference but I thought a 30 was more 509/510

MD? Zero.
DO: Merely OK. You'd autorejected at my school and several others.

Autorejected because of the sGPA or both? I always thought DO school had a hard cutoff that was typically below 3.0. Do most schools actually have 3.1+ cutoffs?

Both. There are hard cutoffs, but there are also effective floors. For example, a school may say their minimum is 3.25, but they may never actually go under 3.3.

Dang. That sucks for me, I'm going into this cycle with a 3.14cgpa & 3.38sgpa. Would you happen to know a rough percentage of DO schools that auto reject below 3.2?

Nope. But apply broadly, especially targeting the newest schools. Skip the coastal Touros, KCU, CCOM, AZCOM, PCOM, DMU, CUSOM.

I can't recommend LUCOM.

I always thought the Touro schools were high MCAT low GPA? My wife is really wanting to move up to NY and Touro seems to be the only NY school that accepts OOS (I'm in Florida).

The coastal Touros have the highest LizzyM scores among all the COMs. CCOM is up there as well. I know this because I have to listen to their Deans crow about theirs every year at meetings.

Hopefully for the both of us I get accepted there. I'd actually get into a school and you wouldn't have to hear about their high LizzyM scores anymore lol.

Depending on your MCAT I would still apply most places except CCOM and CUSOM. KCU will over look the cGPA if your MCAT and sGPA are above the cutoff by a fair amount.

I haven't taken the MCAT yet but I've done (3) practice tests (TPR - 495, Kaplan - 501, NS1 - 506 [128,125,126,127]) and my MCAT date is 5/13. I think it's safe to say I'll do at least a 510 but I figure it doesn't really matter if my GPA does not meet the cutoff for certain schools. I'm thinking my best bet is LECOM-Bradenton (I figure it's the only school that will care that my undergrad is engineering since they are PBL) and NOVA since they had a recent 3.4gpa matriculate class. I'm applying to 25 schools. I'll apply to all DO the schools that have accepted Florida students in the past and that don't advertise a 3.2+ GPA cutoff. The rest of my 25 schools will just be Florida MD schools and any bottom tier MD schools that accepts OOS students.

If you break 510 KCU will look at you and most likely give you a secondary. The only school that screens hard at 3.2 is CUSOM. Just apply broadly and you will be fine, especially because your sGPA is decent. With a high MCAT low GPA combo you never know who will be interested. I was outright rejected from schools I thought were my targets but got interviews to a few of the "best" schools, and I'll be going to a state school as OOS. It's a total guess, you will probably get some surprises. Right now just focus on wrecking the MCAT.

In that case I'll apply there if I break a 510. My AMCAS sGPA is 3.25ish so I'd really like to apply to as many DO schools as I can. I also heard that UNECOM looks at your last 120 credits which would give me a 3.7 cgpa and sgpa so I imagine LECOM and UNECOM would be my best shot. I'll just have to apply everywhere and see what I get back.

You can do better than LECOM-B honestly.

I honestly do not care which school I go to. If I had better stats to be choosy I might actually look into which schools I would like but a 3.14 cGPA is not a stat that can allow me to pick and choose. My wife cares about the area so I guess that's really the only difference to me. If both CCOM and LECOM-B offered me an acceptance, I would just ask my wife which area she liked better lol.
