Hey ya'll please help me! What are my chances of getting into the schools that I applied to

My bio:
-I am 26 year old African-American woman with a B.S. Political Science.

-single mother to a wonderful and beautiful 4 y.o

-I am an LPN/LVN working 60 hrs a week ( changing careers because my parents thought i would make a good nurse which i am but it is not the field that i want to be in for the rest of my life. after many months of research I believe without a shadow of a doubt that dentistry is the field for me. Also nursing has exposed me to many of the medical fields and I hated all of it except psych)

-I have a total of 15 hrs of shadowing and continuing (i know its on the low end due to being over worked and a single mom; it's hard to find a doctor to shadow but i am doing my best)

-DAT SCORES #1: PAT: 19; QR:16 (49.9%); RC: 17; BIO: 21; GENC: 18; OCHEM: 20; TS: 19; AA: 18
-DAT SCORES #2: PAT: 18; QR: 16 (65.3% improvement) RC: 16; BIO: 22; GENC: 22; OCHEM: 22; TS: 22; AA: 20
-Note: Not happy that my PAT score fell by one point; not happy that my reading score fell by one point; on the other hand i am really happy about my math and the sciences lol

- G.P.A: total= 3.13; BCP=3.09; nonscience= 3.27 ( I know what ya'll are thinking its on the low end compared to the rest of ya'll)

-Schools that i have applied to (11 total)
Midwestern AZ (my primary pick because I live here plus i have family to help me with my little one and the school is awesome; very family oriented)
Midwestern IL
Howard University
Lake Erie
Louisiana State
Tufts
Univ. Maryland
Univ. New England
Univ. Detroit Mercy
Univ. Nevada
Univ. of Puerto Rico
NOTE: I believe that I have a fighting chance to get into one of them: Midwes AZ and IL, University of New England, Univ. of Maryland, and Univ of Nevada.

- EC: professional note taker, chemistry tutor, i make wigs, i dance (not just hip hop lol all types: tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, etc)

-REC letters: I do believe that my professors and my dentist has submitted positive rec letters.

-Personal Statement: to be quite honest writing is my weakest area. Even though my PS is submitted every time I look at it I find mistakes or i could have written it better. Makes me wanna cry.

PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME! WHAT ARE MY CHANCES GUYS I AM SOOOOOO SCARED THAT I WILL NOT GET IN FALL OF 2014 😱

Hi Warshley,

When did you submit your applications? Also, are you fluent in spanish? We have very similar gpas but your DAT is higher. You definitely still have a fighting chance. I think adcoms will like your improvement in your DAT scores and I wouldn't worry too much about the 16 in QR holding you back. I also have a B.S. in PolSci and at my first interview they said they were glad I had a non science major so i think that will worl in your favor too.To give you some hope I was very uneasy about this cycle after taking my DAT (I also have a 16 in QR) but I have managed to snag 3 interviews so far. At this point all you can do is be patient. I wish you the bestbof luck!

what's your state school? 16 in QR won't kill you. I have a 16 and I got plenty of interviews. I think the only thing i'd be worried about is the RC.

Why didn't you apply to Meharry?

Unless you are a Louisiana resident, don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe Dr.Cheramie at LSU said they are done sending interview invites until January. I could be wrong, but that's what I heard.

When did you send in your application?

Yes, I'd consider adding Meharry only because they haven't started sending invites at all yet. So you'd still have a good shot at being invited for a pre-december interview. They would also be a good addition just in case Howard actually enforces their cut off for 18 in each section of the DAT.

I recall they also tend to accept more women than men.

Don't forget that Howard requires I believe 6 credit of anatomy

@bluedevil2012: I submitted my application for MWU-AZ june 14th and the rest on 8/21/13 (parents told me not to put all my eggs in one basket). I am not influent in any language ;(
I don't understand why I don't have any interviews yet? Best of luck to you my friend! Please keep me posted

@gn4: my state school is MWU-AZ. I have never heard of Meharry! Is it to late to apply?

@laughinggas: I believe I have satisfied all my science credits based on what me and the advisor had talk about. lol.

Ya'll pray for me!!!!

Low RC, low gpa, PS not polished as it should be. Late app. = Why you don't have interviews or no interviews yet.
Just wait. Everyone that submitted 2 months earlier than you are waiting for interviews.

For Tufts, they require at least a 17 on RC and 75 hrs of shadowing (40 from a general dentist).

University of Puerto Rico requires fluency in spanish as all the courses are taught in spanish I beleive.

No, it isn't too late to apply to Meharry. Add them tomorrow and submit their supplemental as soon as possible. Do a little research on their school, its located in Nashville, TN and caters to urm applicants.

Like Laughinggas said, you did apply later than most so be patient. RC may be more of a problem than QR but you never know, adcoms may see 20/22 and give you an invite anyway.

Hopefully they take the better RC score which was 17. Thank you all for the advice. best of luck to all. I will surely keep ya'll posted!

If you have to re-apply next year look at each individual schools admissions requirements. That's what I did. I made a huge list of schools that accept OOS students and ones that except my GPA. I looked at every single dental school's website and wrote down what they require and if I thought I had a chance. I applied to 16 schools and only schools that accepted people with my GPA/DAT.

For example on LSU's website:

- Dental Admission Test
A competitive score on the DAT is considered to be an academic average of 20 with no score lower than 18. The mean academic average for entering freshmen is 20.

- The mean Grade Point Average for entering freshmen is currently 3.6.

- Yes, we accept up to 5 out of state applicants per year, and up to 4 Arkansas residents per year.

This being on their website kind of shows that you probably wont get an interview there. I didn't even apply there and I live in a state that touches Louisiana.

The point is that schools are very picky and many have specific things they want to see.
Just my thoughts. Good Luck!
