Hi everyone,

I will be applying to MD and DO school in the upcoming application cycle (2016-2017) and I would really appreciate any advice/tips you have to offer. I have posted some basic information, but let me know if any additional information is needed for better advising.
  • Graduated with a B.S. in Human Biology from Top 15 University
  • NJ Resident
  • For MD, thinking about NJMS, Cooper, RWJMS, NYMC, Hofstra, Temple, Commonwealth, Drexel
  • For DO, thinking about Rowan SOM, NYIT, TouroCOM, PCOM, LECOM, UNECOM
  • Undergraduate GPA: 3.20
  • Graduate GPA (so far): 3.61
  • Science GPA: 3.0 based on AMCAS, 3.1 based on AACOMAS

The results of your MCAT retake will dictate your chances with MD schools(511+ should be the target... 515+ in particular would really help). Keep up the solid work at your SMP and youll be a very good DO candidate even if you dont hit such targets on the MCAT retake. If your weakness was bio last time around on the MCAT, an SMP should help with preparation and the skills needed for that section.

For MD schools make sure that sGPA is actually >3.0 and not under by even a little as regardless of how well you do on in your SMP and on an MCAT retake, you run the risk of getting screened out at some places for a <3.0.
