Hello to All -

Long story short, a terrible academic year after transferring from a CC tanked my GPA. I transferred after a year to another 4-year, produced good grades & graduated. I initially was heading to a pretty good law school, but a hospital stay for a med. condition I was diagnosed with shifted my perspective towards medicine. Here's the kicker: My institutional GPA is a 3.57, but my overall GPA is a 2.67. My academic advisor mapped out how long it would potentially take for me to fulfill prereq's based upon working full-time, but I wanted to find out if I would have any chance of obtaining acceptance to a U.S. school (assuming my trend of good grades continues an upward shift). It seems that some people I've talked to about this have the "you can do it!" attitude, but lack the pragmatic approach a stranger can give.

No science/math course taken in college beyond those required for liberal arts degrees (mine was History). I've already contacted local hospitals etc. to line up EC's.

I understand that I probably appear as a lost cause, but any commentary would be appreciated.

You might want to look into DO medical schools also, as their grade forgiveness policy, if you retake a class with a low grade, will allow for the fastest GPA improvement. Credit hours must be the same or greater. Need not retake at the same school. Course title need not be identical if class content is essentially the same per the course catalogs.

Strongly concur. You'll need a post-bac to get your pre-recs in, and also some Bio courses to show us you can handle med school-like courses, like, say, biochem, cell bio, genetics, anatomy.

You are far from a lost cause, but your gpa will be significant challenge. Try the non-trad forum for how others have done it.

Thanks a lot for the feedback everyone!
