Hi,

I submitted my AMCAS on June 1st. I have a 3.66 non science GPA and 3.61 science GPA - significant upward trend in my grades. I will be senior next year. I took my MCAT in April and got a 31M (11PS, 8VR, 12 BS). I want to know what my chances are - I am not looking to get accepted to a top school - just somewhere. I am currently registered for the August 5th MCAT but I don't know that I should retake it because I am afraid my score may decrease! I have applied to:

NYMC, UMDNJ-RWJMS, UMDNJ-NJMS, GW, Georgetown, Drexel, Temple, Tulane, Rosalind Franklin, Loyola Stritch, Penn State, Albert Einstein, BU, Tufts, Albany Medical College

As far as my activites go, I was a private tutor for 3 years, have been an RA for 2 years, have been doing research for 2 years and will be graduating with an Honors thesis, and have been volunteering at a hospital for a year and half now (100+ hours).

I know I can do better on my MCAT, but I just don't feel that I have prepared enough. I was averaging 35 on my AAMC practice tests, but nerves go to me on test day. My top choice would be UMDNJ-RWJMS since I am a NJ resident.

I am just not sure if I should retake or just go ahead an continue with my secondaries and hope that the 8 on the verbal section and the M on the writing section doesn't hurt me!

Please let me know! ANY advice is greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't retake. With a 31 your good, and many schools have a bottom 10th percentile at 7 or 8, be sure to apply to some of those schools. I received two interviews last cycle with an 8 in verbal and my cumulative score was only a 29 and I submitted in September. Obviously, its comparing apples to oranges, but either way I should think youd be fine.

Good luck
