Hello everyone!
Long time lurker, finally signed up for SDN and I was hoping to get some feedback on what's my potential for getting into med school.
Dropped out of high school with a 1.2 GPA in sophomore year (personal reasons, family discord, divorce & depression etc.)
Obtained my GED around the time my graduating class received their diplomas so I wasn't too far behind.
At my local CC now, biochem major, 4.0 GPA, 60% of the way through to receiving my A.S. (all non-science credits are completed.) Planning on transferring to local university to take science courses. (advisor recommended that med schools frown upon science taken at CC; have now learned that this is the furthest from the truth.)
About to begin shadowing local cardiologist and cardio surgeon for the summer as well as continue college part-time and working a job full-time as a coordinator at a non-profit organization teaching music to underprivileged children.
Planning on doing research next summer/volunteering throughout the entire year.
With all that being said, what could you, the wonderful people of SDN recommend I do to increase my chances of success?
Thank you!
