Hello all,
Stats-
oGPA: 3.84
sGPA: 3.81
MCAT: 500
TX Resident - not URM, non-trad
Extracurriculars-
Shadowing: 100 and 8 hours with two different physicians
Research: 5 months public health and 2 semesters as a volunteer at a biology research lab
Volunteering: 10 hours food bank, 250 hours hospital, 50 hours tutoring university chemistry
Work: Scribe for cardiology, orthopedics, IM (will be over 1000 hours before 2018), TA for general chemistry and organic chemistry (1 semester each), high school english and math tutor for 5+ years
Leadership: founded two clubs on campus and held two leadership positions with 100 and 20 members
I have applied to all Texas school except Baylor. I'm realistic and know my chances are slim due to my MCAT, just want to get any feedback/opinions/advice. I've explained in my personal statement that my MCAT was affected due to working multiple jobs to help support my family financially (dad lost job, mom passed due to genetic disease).
Should I just give up all hope for any admission?
My plan B would be to either:
1) Continue working, retake MCAT, increase Spanish fluency, shadow more physicians, try to get into research (much easier said than done) and apply next cycle or
2) Pursue a science related Masters/PhD, retake MCAT, reapply in 2-4 years
Financial situation still sucks so no matter if its Plan A, B1 or B2.. I'm properly stressed.
Thanks in advance for any advice and hi to all those lurking.
