My GPA is currently at 2.5 and i am a junior in college. I want to go to med school. My dream is to one day become a doctor. Currently in this semester of school I am doing much better. I am taking 4 classes (14 credits) and have all A's this semester. I feel like I am doing much better in school now compared to my weak start in school. I feel like I can excel in my classes from now on. My advisors in my school and teachers have told me to heavily reconsider trying to get into med school. I have become unsure now and thinking this might just be a foolish pipe dream.

if you can get your cumulative and science gpa to at least a 3 by the end of senior year, you would probably fare best by doing a special masters program. i think your GPA is too damaged to get enough benefit from a post bacc

I’m not sure you’ll be able to get your GPAS above 3.0 but that would be the first step. A SMP is a risky and expensive option. You have to do well(>3.7) or it’s game over. As @Goro always says-“have a Plan B”.

id just like to let OP know that DO is still very possible with SMP GPA of 3.5, and he can definitely have success with state MD's (assuming all other parts of app are good) with a 3.6 up....just wanted to clarify that a 3.7 is not the cutoff for success. it really depends on several factors. obviously, there are SMP GPA's that will sink an application with no chance of repair, but that isn't everything below a 3.7

You will need to ace everything from now on, and also perhaps a post-bac (DIY) or SMP. AND do well on MCAT.
