Hi. I am graduating this August with a B.A. in Biology and psychology + minor in Japanese.

I have 4 recommendation letters (2 from biology professors, 1 from psychology & 1 from a dentist I shadowed who used to be an associate professor at my school's dental school).

I have plenty shadowing hours, community service hours, extracurricular activities and research.

I took DAT last Tuesday. I actually wanted to take it last year but freaked out when I figured out I wasn't ready. So here are my scores.

PAT: 25 (99%)
QR: 24 (99%)
RC: 24 (94%)
BIO: 28 (99.7%)
GC: 26 (98..8%)
OC: 20 (79.9%)

TS: 23 (97.8%)
AA: 24 (99.6%)

I actually almost burst into tears while doing the science section because I thought I bombed it..... I mean, I practiced a lot and thought I was ready for it, but the questions were really tough.

Anyway, I would feel much more confident applying this cycle if it wasn't for my GPA, which are....

overall GPA: 3.51
Science GPA: 3.11 😡
Non-science GPA: 3.85
BCP GPA: 3.60

I am looking through my handbook, and it looks like all the schools will be a tad difficult with a sGPA of 3.11...

I know there isn't much I can do to improve my application at this point, but could you tell me what my chances are, and what I could do to improve it?

Thank you in advance!

Assuming the rest of your application is okay (PS, EC's, LOR's etc). Chance of getting in:
* Low GPA, Low DAT: slim to none
* Low GPA, High DAT or High GPA, Low DAT: unpredictable. Adcoms may like your application, but there's no guarantee that you'll get in.
* High GPA, High DAT: You're golden.

I think you should just apply and cross your fingers. There's nothing you can do right now and no one can really tell you what's waiting for you in the upcoming cycle (rejection/interview/acceptance etc). Good luck.

Killer DAT makes up for that GPA. I think you're going to be just fine. Apply to UoP and NYU definitely.

No less than 15 schools is a wise idea. And apply to all the private schools in the country.

Thank you for all your replies!

OP, I think you look pretty good for this application cycle. Your DAT is out of this world and your BCP GPA is great.

I'd probably add Midwestern-AZ, Midwestern-IL, and Temple to your list.

Hmm.. I dont think I'll add Texas schools since, as you said, they are known not to be OOS friendly.

How are Midwestern schools? I actually heard pretty bad things about Temple....that's why I removed them from my list.

But seriously, thank you for all your input!!

Oh really? What/from whom did you hear things about Temple?

I don't know too much about any particular schools since I don't go anywhere (applying this cycle with you!), but someone I know goes to Midwestern AZ and likes it

I figure adding schools you might want to go to is never a bad thing, if you have $ and want to get in somewhere...you never know where you'll end up or which place you'll really like!

I hope I'm not offending anyone...
But people who have decided not to go to Temple.
Not a lot of people, just a couple. I guess they had their reasons.

I agree with you that adding schools isn't a bad thing, but I'm worried I'll get bombarded with secondary applications...

Actually, already kind of am.

Really, it's your choice.

I'd just personally rather apply to all schools I could possibly want to attend and then see how it goes/how I like it.
