Hi, I studied 4 years in Dental School in Cuba but came to America short before graduating in search of freedom and greater opportunities. I don't have a BS yet here in America, but I applied this year because all my credits from dental school were applied toward my BS and right now I almost have 200 credits. Since I already don't have Financial Aid and work 30 hours a week while being full time student, I thought I wanted to take the risk and see what happens. Do u think guys that because all my background I have any chance to get at least an interview without having a BS??? I'm taking the DAT next month! 😕

You don't have to have your BS before you apply, but most schools want you to have it by the time you matriculate.

I was born here but half my family and a lot of friends are from Cuba and are going through what you're going through. I can tell you that at least for dentistry, since you didn't complete the dental program in Cuba you need to complete the prerequisite courses to get in. I don't think you need a Bachelor's but you have to take all the Biology's, Chemistry's, etc. Remember that your DAT scores are good for 2 years so you can complete those courses and apply to dental school in a year or so.

*another thing, make sure you call schools and see if they will accept the courses you took in Cuba. Sometimes the courses your undergraduate university accepts, will not neccessarily be accepted in dental school. Best of luck, I hope it all works out 🙂

Are you here legally?

All Cubans are legal in the USA as soon as we arrive 🙂

Yandillo: I have Cuban friends (I'm cuban too) who are just like you, came from Cuba and were almost finished (one year left) and they just attended FIU and will get their BS. Maybe you will get some interviews plus I think that being a DS back in the island kinda helps, just try to underline your desire to become one and you may get it. PA' LANTE ASERE! 😀

I hope you're kidding. you just come on over and are an american and get to take a spot in a dental school that a real american deserves? thats disgusting

I think he's talking about the wet feet, dry feet policy, look it up if you seek closure.
