Hey guys! I'm currently a sophomore in college with a major in psychology and a focus in premed. I should be able to graduate next year and I just want to know what my chances are of getting into med school. My freshman year I got a C- in general bio and my fall semester was my worst with a GPA of 3.11. This was my worst semester bc it was the first time I lived away from home, had horrible roommates, and my dad was diagnosed with cancer, stage 4. Spring semester I tried hard and ended up with a 3.69 GPA. Fall semester of sophomore year I got a C+ in orgo 1 and my overall GPA was a 3.6 and now I'm in my spring semester taking orgo 2 and I think I might get a C-. My overall GPA at the moment is a 3.48 and I think my science GPA is about a 3.1. After this semester I'll be done with my premed classes and then I'll be finishing up my classes for my major which I hope to get an A in. I'll be taking the mcat this summer. I just want to know what my chances are of getting into med school. I haven't done any research or internships but I plan on volunteering/interning at a hospital this summer and then doing research next year. Please help me!

You're showing an upward trend in your academics. Keep up the good work and make sure you crush your MCAT (27+). You're going to need to introduce clinical exposure and volunteering.

Don't be so worried. You will be fine.

Try whatever you can to not get a C- in orgo 2. Getting a C, while not ideal, is fine, but some schools may require a C or above in all pre-reqs (i.e. a C- wouldn't work, and you may have to retake it). If you can do anything to finish with a C, that would be for the best.

Otherwise, you're fine. Do well on the MCAT. Add clinical and volunteering experience like chizledfrmstone said.

Still enough time to recover and get into a good program. Good luck.

I understand that you went through some hard times but I highlighted my biggest concerns. You can give it a shot but I think you should retake organic 2 if you get a C- and retake general bio.

Best of luck my friend!

Sorry to hear of all your woes. I'd say you're doing fine and things are looking good.
