I am wondering what are my chances at PCOM, KCUMB or MWUAZ. I got a 25 (10Bio/8ver/7ph) on the MCAT, I have a 3.6cGPA 3.42sGPA, held 9 leadership positions: Senator, Rush Chair, Philanthropy Chair, Fundraiser Chair of various organizations, 55 research hours, 40 shadowing hours, 100 clinical volunteering hours, and 100+ non volunteering hours. Also I have 9 awards I have won and I have already sent in my primary and secondary applications. Do you all think I have a good chance of interviews/acceptance to these schools?

Our stats are almost identical. My MCAT is (8/7/10), all the luck to you!

Honestly your MCAT is lower than avg, your GPA is maybe a little above avg, and your EC's outside of leadership positions are weak - your hours I am speaking of. I think you can get into a DO school but definitely not PCOM. I don't know the other schools stats so I won't comment.

whoa, is PCOM that competitive?

I talked to an adcom this year, their averages hovered around a 3.5cgpa/3.5sgpa/27. But he/she hinted that lower than a 8 on a section isn't good.

Where all are you applying?

So far my school list is:
  • ATSU-SOMA
  • AZCOM
  • CUSOM
  • DMU
  • PCOM/PCOM-GA
  • KCUMB
  • LECOM-Erie
  • LECOM-Bradenton
  • LUCOM
  • MU-COM
  • MSU-COM
  • NYIT
  • NSU-COM
  • PNWU-COM
  • RVU-COM
  • RowanSOM
  • TUNCOM
  • VCOM-CC
  • Western-COMP
  • Western-Lebanon
  • WCUCOM

No but they're the ones I want to go to. I have a do LOR that is an alum from KCUmb. I've also applied to ou, nova, and OSU

PCOM, KCUMB or MWUAZ, OU, NSU, and OSU.

Did you just go through a list and pick out some of most reputable programs?

What type of awards are we talking?

Oooh! I might reconsider applying to PCOM then since I have a 7 on VR, what about PCOM-GA?

pcom-ga has an average gpa of 3.4 s gpa of 3.3 and mcat of 24.5. Their acceptance rate is a bit below 10%.

No, I'm from Oklahoma so I picked out ou, KCUmb, and OSU based on area. The others I picked out based on my gpa and what my do recommended me to apply for. I've won awards from my campus that you have to be nominate for based off of academics, leadership and service to the community. I've also won scholarships based off of these criteria. I have over 250+ volunteer hours and over 2000+ hours that I've dedicated to my ecs and exec positions, I've also raised $45,000.00 for charities while I've been a philanthropy chair. I've just kind of figured my ecs + research (published) will help me to stand out and at the very least get me interviews to these schools if not acceptances.

Where are you getting these numbers from?

They received 8363 applications. 5550 supplements were completed. 690 interviewed 404 admitted and 270 enrollment. I took 404/5550 which is 7.3% So its very competitive. Depending on how you look at it you could do 404/8363 to get a 4.8% acceptance rate. Its a tough school to get into. Ivy league schools have a 9 percent acceptance rate overall I think.

IMO you should apply to pcom ga instead of pa as it is closer to oklahoma and you stand a much better chance there.

Walmart has a lower acceptance rate than Harvard. 23k apps for 600 jobs.

Are you really comparing PCOM to Harvard? The school that has a multi-billion dollar endowment?

You have some good things on there.

I would still add a few backups just in case.

Hey numbers don't lie!!!! PCOM/Walmart >Harvard.

As an aside I was obvi not serious as acceptance rate is a flawed statistic but I was pointing out how difficult it is to get into med school in general.

Also don't knock PCOM there endowment [160 mil] is impressive also. These schools are no doubt impressive.

The adcom strictly spoke about PCOM. But he said if you are a weaker applicant with a lower MCAT or GPA then the requirement for PCOM, then applying to PCOM-GA as well may be a viable option.

PCOM ga has a less then 8 physical science average. So yes the admission requirements are less then Philly but still very high

Realize that this is a n=1 situation, but I am starting at PCOM in a few weeks. My MCAT was 25 (6p/10v/9b), and 3.5. Non-trad with unique EC's. All I'm saying is that the whole "no lower than an 8 in each subsection" is more of a suggestion to evaluate your competitiveness rather than a rule. PCOM is moderately regionally selective...about 50% come from PA and Delaware. I'm coming from Alaska, so about as far away as you can get in the US (except our "sister" state, Hawaii). If you have a specific, compelling reason for a place like PCOM and you can articulate it well in your secondary and a potential interview, go for it. The application process is a complete crapshoot, and places you think you'd be a shoe-in for sometimes never give you the time of day, and others that you put on a "reach list" end up loving you.

24.64? That's not the figure I got when I talked to admissions..

Here is the link to the sticky at the top of the page that tells you where this should be posted: What are my chances?

4000 apps a year huh? And still only a 24 Mcat. That's interesting.

Any info on what type of students they're looking for?

The things she talked about was pretty general. I bet a good deal of the applicants have abismal grades. So that might contribute to it. I also would GUESS regional bias plays a role.

They also mentioned how a lot of the time people look grade on paper but don't get in because in person they aren't so impressive. They also said that for some reason or another some people with the numbers just don't get in. It sounded a bit random.

Actually I'm posting it.
Here you guys go.
Where did you get this? I know of multiple members here that will be attending PCOM-Ga this year. There is no way their avg can be less than 3.5/26, if that.

This. That's a ridiculously low average. The class of 2016 had a mean score of 28. No way it dropped by 4 points, two years later.

OK I posted the picture. Go look at it. Its clear as day. Just because you know people who are going there doesn't make their averages higher then they are. Look its a great school but I can't make the numbers there higher then they actually are.
