hey all,

I was hoping to apply this cycle, once I take my DAT and see what my scores are.
If I end up with a AA of 21+ I will apply, but what are my chances. My the time that my application goes through it will be mid-september. Is this date too late?
I am a double major in Anthropology and Biology. I have a overall GPA of 3.2, an anthro gpa of 3.7 and a science GPA of 3.1. I have tons of extracurricular hours and like 100+ of shadowing a general dentist and some shadowing of implant surgery. I don't know if I am in good standing. I have 4 good letters of recommendation. The dentist that I shadow said that my best bet is the west coast or the east coast schools.

Not given up yet. 🙂

Maybe its just me but your chances with that gpa are dropping everyday you dont submit. Unless you get a killer DAT Im not sure if youll get at least any pre december interviews. When are you planning on taking your DAT?

Agreed ^, waiting to send in the application while you are waiting to take the DAT is a fatal mistake because it takes most schools 2 - 4 weeks to fully check off that they have everything including the DAT scores. Most schools didn't email be back until 4 weeks later saying they have everything and are waiting on the DAT scores. At least once I take my DAT this weekend i should only wait 2 weeks at the most to hear a reply. That GPA isn't horrific, but it is low and only an amazing DAT score will get you that interview, albeit later than you'd hope for.

Im in my senior year, so I only have 2-3 quarters left in school. Im going to do a masters degree as a backup to strengthen my GPA for the next cycle. Ill be applying to this cycle and masters programs as well. Im in cali, but what schools are my best bet here. There are 6 dental schools in cali and I think that I have no hope for admittance into USC or UCLA, so I shouldn't even apply? Or, do I take the risk and apply. Im going to submit the application this week, even though my DAT scores wont be in. The most i'll be losing is 1k, so its a gamble im willing to take.

USC is private, so I would still apply there. Private schools usually are more inclined to take a chance on someone. I think you are right about UCLA being a reach, but with a strong DAT score (21+), I would never say never since you are a CA resident.

Apply to a few private schools since they don't have to meet the instate quota. Id say Columbia University since it's on the east side and private so your chances jump up to get in there.
