Hi guys,

I'm new to this so I appreciate any help/advice that is given!
Stats:
Biochemistry major with a 3.55 cGPA (should be about 3.6 by the time I graduate this June)
MCAT score of 28 (10 PS/8 VR/10 BS)
Extracurriculars:
I worked for a doctor for the last year doing clinical research and got published with him on a paper.
I interned at a hospital for a year doing clinical work.
I'm a TA for one of my professors.
I shadowed another doctor two years ago for a couple of months.
I worked in a lab doing general lab maintenance for a couple of months last year.

If I'm looking to apply to DO schools this upcoming cycle in June, what are my chances? Especially for the ones in California (TCOM and Western).

Thanks! 🙂

Chances fine for all DO school. Apply 6/1!!

What if I want to wait until my transcripts are finalized in mid-end of June? Would that hurt me if I applied a bit later in June?

I don't have a DO letter, but do have an MD letter.. is that a big problem?

You need to get a DO letter...you don't want to give programs any reason to not accept you. Sure...there may be some that overlook it...but don't leave anything to chance.

If you want to get applications out asap...you need to get on this. Everything else in your package doesn't look like it would hold you back.

If I just shadow a DO for a couple of months prior to applying, will that be suspicious or anything?

n=1 but I was accepted without ever shadowing or getting a letter from a DO, though I did have fairly high stats (3.8/32). I did get a few rejections so it possibly hurt me, but the point is that it is possible to get in without working with a DO in any way.

You seem like a well rounded applicant and should have a solid shot at most schools. Good luck.
