Hello Everyone!

I am a California resident currently in the process of writing my personal statement and begin my application for medical school in this 2016 rotation. My current stats are as follows

MCAT:
Physical Sciences: 125
CARS: 124
BIO: 129
Psych/Soc: 128
Overall: 506

Cum GPA: 3.81
Majors: Biological Sciences + Women and Gender Studies

Volunteerwork:
600+ hours of clinical volunteering
80 hours of community service at a homeless shelter
7+ one day medical mission trips to Mexico
50+ hours of shadowing M.D.

Letters of Rec (in the process of applying for a committee letter)
2 science faculty
1 non-science faculty
2 M.D.

Research:
2 years experience in a molecular biology lab

Work:
I have worked as a student assistant for about a year as well as a waiter for 2 years while I attended school.

I took the new MCAT in 2015 after I took TPR courses. The average for my scores on TPR practice exams were about a 500 and I scored a 506 on the actual exam. I am planning on applying to the lower tier M.D. schools and a large amount of D.O. I believe that my MCAT score is the largest limiting factor in my acceptance to medical school.

Do you guys believe that I have a chance of getting into the D.O. schools and lower tier M.D. schools? Also do you believe I should retake the MCAT?

Don't bother retaking the MCAT unless you get shut out of an app cycle.

I recommend:

Temple
Jefferson
Drexel
Quinnipiac
WVU
Rosy Franklin
MCW
SLU
Creighton
Loma Linda (but read their list of don'ts)
Albany
NYMC
VCU
U VM
EVMS
Oakland-B
Western MI
Rush
UCI
UCD
UCR (IF you live in the Inland Empire
Any DO school, starting with Touro-CA and Western

Second-ing Goro's recommendations and adding: Shadowing a DO for at least one work day (pref primary care) to add more credibility to the inevitable question: Why DO? This is mostly relevant for WesternU and Touro, assuming you would want a Cali school > "low-tier" MD. A DO letter will also probably get your AACOMAS app looked at faster too (just conjecture).

Agreed, get a DO LOR and you should be set for DO programs. You even have a chance at low tier MD with a smart list. Look at the ones Goro suggested. In addition to the DO schools mentioned I suggest TUNCOM and AZCOM. I know both of them like California applicants
