Hello Guys,

2.33 cGPA
1.70 sGPA
First 3 years GPA ^
Still, have 2 years to boost up GPA
Canadian Resident, No Green Card
Over 350 hours shadowing in private practice
Over 100 hours shadowing at a hospital
Co Owner of a custom bracing and orthotics business, work with ortho surgeons and family docs.
2 years of working at hospitals as a porter and an emergency attendant. >2000 hours.
Extracurricular activities: basketball, vice president of a club, athletic tutor, basketball coach for kids under 16.
Will be doing research during the summer or next year, for sure will publish something.
Will be doing my MCAT this summer.
Can secure strong LORs from 1 DO doc whom I shadowed and a list of MD docs whom I work with

Reason for my poor GPA during my first 3 years of my undergrad was because:
1) I wasn't serious, and would never study until the day before the exams.
2) Was distracted by business and making money.
3) was putting work over school.

I still have 2 years to boost up my GPA, science GPA will go up fairly quickly because KINE courses are counted to the sGPA and that's my major.

Dont know if an SMP is worth it, Hopes are still up if I do really well on the last 2 years of my undergrad so i can apply to a couple of Canadian medschools that look at best/last 2 years.

Any DO schools that will consider me if I bring my GPA up to at least a 3.0 ?
Am also considering International schools such as UK, Ireland, Austraila, Carribeans.

Ofc for me it would be CAN> USMD> USDO> Austraila> UK > Ireland > Carribean

Just trying to keep my options open if I would be competitive in US schools given that I kill the MCAT and bring up my GPA.

Thanks so much for the time to read this and respond!

Yes, if you get your GPA above 3.0 and score well on the MCAT (510 ish) you will be competitive for DO.

But frankly OP you have next to no room for error from this point forward. Not saying you can't do it but it's going to take a lot. Good luck.

I don't know that much about applying as an international student, but I'd say you're in for an uphill battle.
  1. Excel in all of your classes immediately.
  2. Slow down on the extracurriculars (especially if time-management can be attributed to your low GPA.)
  3. Don't worry about the MCAT until you raise your GPA > 3.0
  4. Consider doing a post-bacc/SMP if you're truly shooting for CAN, USMD, or USDO.
  5. If possible, don't obtain LoRs right away, it's preferred that LoRs are up-to-date (have recent time stamp) upon applying.
