I was hoping to apply during the 2018-2019 cycle but i am feeling discouraged about my low gpa. I go to a small private college and I did horrible my first semester from goofing off (2.4). got a 3.5 my second semester but then one of my parents got terminally ill and family stress resulted in my 2.7 for the following semester. the semester after that i received a 3.3. Assuming i get all A's (which i am currently working extremely hard towards), come application time i will have a cGPA= 3.34 and a sGPA= 3.24 and a BCP= 3.25. I took my DAT over the summer and scored AA/24. I'm in 3 clubs, I did research with a prof, i have 100+ shadowing hours with a gen dentist and have shadowed 4 specialists. I am a nys resident and urm. I have 9 schools so far i plan on applying to but I am still feeling discouraged, is it likely i will get in somewhere with these stats?

You could totally do it. The GPA is low but your DAT is awesome. Keep shadowing and gaining more experiences and work hard in school and make sure that you are ready to explain your GPA and you should be good! Good Luck!

Do your best to keep your grades up for the rest of undergrad, and try to explain your hardships that resulted in your poor semester(s). Your DAT is really good, so I think you definitely still have a good shot!

you should be good. have everything ready and be ready to apply within first week of june 1st. do some solid research into where you want to apply and apply to more than just a few schools. It would also help you to get a rec letter from the professor you did research with.

Hi guys, going off this thread I am currently a junior aspiring to go to dental school. I currently have a 3.79 overall GPA, and a 3.74 science GPA. I also have worked as a dental assistant, shadowed, have went on three dental mission trips out of country, volunteer at the hospital weekly, and am involved in two clubs on campus where I hold leadership positions. My advisor said my GPA may be lacking to get into dental school. Is this true or do I have a significant chance? Thank you for any help you can provide!

Looks great to me! How's your DAT?

Find a new advisor.

Hey, I would agree with all of the people above. Apply. June 1. You're dat is amazing and if you can keep your grades up and write a good personal statement which also brings in an explanation about your poor first two years, you have a very good shot.
