Hi everyone,

I'm currently a sophomore undergrad student. My major is biology and my minors are chemistry and Spanish. My overall GPA is 3.73 and my overall science GPA is 3.54. I have gotten a 4.0 in all non science related courses. I'm taking organic chemistry 1 right now and my professor said that I will probably end up with a B in the course and I am also taking biology 1 and will probably end with an A in the course. I am concerned about the gap between my science and non science GPAs. I know that I still have two more years to bring up my science GPA.

Also, I have been working as a private tutor for a few years now in both volunteer and paid positions. I have about 30 hours of shadowing and plan on shadowing more when I have the opportunity. I am also applying to volunteer at my local hospital.

Ideally I would like to apply for an allopathic program, but would be okay applying to an osteopathic program as well.

Please give me any suggestions or advice that you may have. I would greatly appreciate it.

Just my two cents...give up tutoring and focus on getting A's. Why would you tutor while not getting close to a 4.0 GPA? Especially sGPA. Volunteering and shadowing are more important

Clinical experience is crucial to answer "why medicine?" Work on increasing that and your science GPA

Agreed, focus on classes. Do you tutor undeserved populations when you volunteer? I would continue to do that if so. I'm a volunteer tutor for a couple immigrant families, and I know that if I left abruptly their grades would pretty drastically suffer, and I probably wouldn't be able to volunteer with the same organization in the future.
