I graduated high school with my associate's degree from a nearby community college. At that age, it was not easy for me to juggle both high school and college at the same time, with normal day classes and night classes, therefore I came out with a 3.1 college GPA. A few years have passed and I am finishing up my degree with a 3.67 GPA (calculated with AMCAS and including all courses from said community college and my current university) with a university GPA of 3.94 (although I doubt that matters).

I was wondering what my chances are of getting into a good medical school based on my GPA, and if they will take into account the huge improvement I have made/that I was still a kid when I was in community college. Thanks for any feedback!

Have you completed all pre-requisite courses for med school? If so, what’s your science (biology, chemistry, physics, and math) GPA, or was that the 3.67 you mentioned?

It would be a 3.62 for my science GPA.

That’s not a bad GPA at all. It’s important to know that GPA alone is not an indicator as to whether you’re a competitive applicant.

Have you taken the MCAT yet, and if so, what did you score?

Do you have any research experience?

Have you done any volunteering?

What clinical experience do you have?

Have you shadowed any MDs or DOs?

What’s your state of residence?
