Hi guys! New to SDN. I wanted to know what my chances are for medical school. Both MD and DO. I would appreciate any and all help.
Gpa: 3.6
Sgpa: 3.6 (if I calculated correctly)
MCAT: (taking in May, been scoring around 505-508)
Major: Biology and Spanish
Fluent in Arabic, English, and proficient in Spanish.
EO1, low SES
Came from an immigrant family
experience:
Over 1000 hours clinical experience, Working as a clinical research assistant at a cancer center. Involved in clinical trials. Great patient/research experience.
Undergrad research 2 years
Service abroad trip to Haiti. Worked medically and also served as a Spanish translator/TA
200 hrs working in hospice
Identify as LGBTQ and very passionate about LGBT health disparities. I volunteer at my local LGBT center. Work with Youth group, trans health, and advocating for prep. It's one of the reasons that drove me to medicine. I faced homelessness growing up.
TA of a few classes in undergrad, public health classes
First year was not so good, but upward trend of grades.
I work with physicians on a regular basis. Close relationship, although I would love to get the chance to shadow a DO as a LOR for DO school would be important. I have worked with a few, but not on a close level to ask for a letter.
Can't think of anything else off the top of my head right now.
Any advice is appreciated. I'm just really hoping I do well on this exam.
