Hey guys,
I am applying this cycle and am in the process of picking schools to apply. So here is a little background info about me. I just graduated from UIC and am applying during my gap year. I have a 506 MCAT score and a 3.57 GPA. I have been working in an analytical chemistry lab for around 2.5 years and just recently had a poster presentation. I have also worked as a general volunteer at rush for 200+ hours, transporting patients and their visitors, delivering mail and flowers, and other odd jobs. I have shadowed a gastroenterologist for around 40 hours at Rush.
I was also in a premedical organization at my school called Society of Future Physicians during my freshman and sophomore year, in which I served in the Volunteer committee (we reached out to doctors and hospitals around the area to look for experience for our club members) as well as the Health Education Program (we reach out to middle and high schools around the area and present topics such as sex education, nutrition, and drugs to those who might not have received that information in peer guided format). During my junior and senior year, I was also was in another organization called Pathways to Biology in which we help the teachers of an affiliate high school set up lab experiments for their students, and also come in once a week to tutor in various subjects such as AP Biology. I don't know how significant this information is but I am also black, but don't consider my self as disadvantaged. Sorry for the long post but I thought it would be a good idea to try to convey who I am as an applicant. I am applying to all Illinois Schools but need some advice on what OOS friendly schools I should think about.
