I applied to dental school last year without a bachelors degree and got two interviews! I did not get accepted because I did not have my bachelors degree. I have improved my GPA and done more EC's to vamp up my application.

Stats:
SGPA: 3.61
GPA: 3.77
Double Major in Management and Finance
Started a American Student Dental Association Chapter at my college

DAT 20AA/ 21 OC/ 19GC/ 21PAT/ 23RC/ 19QR/ 19BIO

What are my chances? I applied to 13 schools but will be an out of state resident for all of them except Creighton's IDEP program here in Idaho but they only take 8 students. I did get an interview there last year.

how many schools did you apply to last year?
how many of the schools that you applied to this year are private?

I applied to just 8.

This year I applied to:
All three Texas schools
LSU
Creighton's program in Idaho
University of Utah
Marquette
Michigan
Minnesota
Colorado
Case Western
VCU
Iowa

your list is almost all public schools

I am aware of that. Any others you would suggest for applying to then?

So you were a candidate for your bachelors last year, but didn’t receive it? Just curious why schools would interview you if there was any indication that you would not graduate. Or why you applied if you weren’t sure you would graduate... Did they say that was the reason they did not accept you?
If so, now that you have your bachelors what would keep them from accepting you? If they were programs you wanted to go to, just make sure you apply to them again and you’ll be good to go.

GPA: Your GPA is competitive enough for all dental schools.

DAT: Your DAT is competitive enough for nearly all dental schools.

School Selection: As Macsak said, your school selection list is compromised of almost all public schools, which typically favor in-state applicants. That's why he emphasized that point. For example, based on our database:

University of Texas at Houston interviews less than 3% of out-of-state applicants. For the same demographics, Texas A&M's rate is ~3% and San Antonio's rate is 7%. Texas schools are some of the least-friendly dental schools when it comes to out-of-state applicants.

Private schools are a lot more friendly with out-of-state applicants, especially schools like NYU and Detroit Mercy, which have out-of-state interview rates of 24.81% and 42.24% respectively. University of Iowa would also be one of those out-of-state friendly schools.

Interviews: Unless the admissions committee directly told you that your reason for denial was because you did not have your bachelors degree, I would recommend working on interview skills, answer framing, and using interview services to better prepare you for your interviews.

The application process is holistic: Make sure each part of your application is strong, including extracurriculars, leadership experiences, your personal statement, and especially your supplemental statements. Those are the areas that allow you to stand out from your competition because academics are just one piece of the pie.

Good luck and let us know if we can provide you with any further help!

I think your chances at Texas schools would be quite low considering you are considered OOS. Do you have any ties to Texas?
