I have just started looking into pharmacy and I just wanted to get a feel for what my chances of getting accepted to certain schools are. I have a low cum. GPA (~3.15) and I was just wondering what you all think my chances of getting into Western, Touro University, or USC are? Are they hard schools to get into? Do I have a chance?

Also, what should I be doing to better my chances of getting in? Volunteer, work, etc.?

I just started looking into this so any ideas/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Whats up Nanoosa 😎 ,

The best advice that I can give you is to apply as soon as possible and get as much experience as possible. I'll be attending Touro in the fall and my GPA is 3.3; however, if you don't have your letters of recommendations and personal statement ready get them done ASAP. Promptness is the biggest difference btwn an interview or denial and acceptance or altenate list.

Well as far as how hard it would be to get in it'd be USC> Touro & Western. But I'de say overall, they're all relatively hard to get into (considering the number admitted vs. not). But it's not like someone with a 3.15 has never gotten into a good pharm school. I'm sure people with 3.15 or even lower get into USC or other good schools. Volunteering can only help you... probably a great deal. An extra curricular or two other than that could be a good idea. And any chance the GPA coule be brought up to the 3.25-3.3 range by the time you are interviewing?

But to answer your question, I'de say you have a chance, but you could make it better in those ways you were already thinking of.

Thanks for all the advice! I have a variety of extracurricular activities just no pharmacy experience/volunteer work. I guess the next step is to get some pharmacy experience then...

When is the earliest you can apply? I think I read somewhere it was in June, but is there an exact date?

Yeah I forget exactly what the date is (check pharmcas), but the pharmcas application is accessible starting somewhere around there. Do that pretty fast, then start on your supplamentals. As DrugMan said, get your Letters of Rec together as early as possible, they can sometimes take a while for a faculty member to finish.
