NOW MY QUERY IS DO I HAVE A CHANCE TO APPLY FOR THE CLASS ENTERING FALL OF 2002 & MAYBE WORK ON MY MCATS TO IMPROVE MY VERBAL PART EVEN TAKING A PRINCETON REVIEW COURSES.
OR
SINCE I AM A FOREIGN BS DEGREE HOLDER & A NON CITIZEN(OR EVEN A NON GREEN CARD HOLDER) , I DON;T STAND A CHANCE.
MOREOVER I DON;T QUALIFY WHAT MIGHT BE A CORE REQUISITE FOR AMCAS WHICH IS NOT SCHOOLING IN USA.
IS THIS A BLACK & WHITE CODE OR CERTAIN BENDING CAN BE DONE TO IT, IF THE SITUATION IS IDEAL

I DON'T NEED ANY FINANCIAL ASSITANCE SINCE MY BROTHER IS ALREADY A PRACTISING COUNSELLOR IN USA, HE IS GOING TO FINANCE MY TUITION

PLEASE BE FRANK IS TELLING ME IF I STAND A CHANCE & GO FOR IT THIS TIME...
OR WETHER IT IS A WASTE F TIME & MONEY

MOREOVER, GETTING LETTER OF RECOMMEDATIONS FROM A KNOWN AMERICAN RED CROSS PERSONAL WILL HELP(I AM RATHER WORRIED THIS MAY HAVE A NEGATIVE IMPACT BECAUSE OF POLITICAL REASONS)

THANKS

Man with that kind of credentials I think they will overlook the international thing. You've been one busy person. Hope it works out well for ya. You MCAT is good. 8 on verbal for an international student is pretty good, and the O on writing backs you up pretty well in my opinion. I would give it a shot, but i'm no expert.

Go ahead and apply. What do you have to lose? The MCAT is solid and your activities seem right in line...I say you'd have just as good of a shot as anyone else.

If you don't bet, you don't win! Just apply..

You need to find out if any school will take a non-us citizen as a med student. I know that we have none in my class of 170, and I don't think they would take one. Contact the schools admissions offices to find out if you have a chance. Though non-us grads get accepted to residency, I am not sure if any get accepted to med school. For one thing you would not be eligible for any of the loan money.

Your accomplishments are excellent, but in this situation that is likely not the deciding factor. Your residency status is. Consider going to med school in your country and comming here for residency.

Check out this web site: http://www.aamc.org/stuapps/facts/famg2.htm

If you look at the bottom there were 992 foreign applicants in 2000. 158, or about 15% got accepted. Maybe you will be one of the 158...

Best of luck to you.

There is no need to post this on multiple forums; most of us read all of the forums. There is also no need to email me your CV, especially without asking nicely whether I would mind taking a look at your posting - but hey, I'm not Miss Manners (if I were I'd suggest you choose another, less offensive, user name).

Great Pumpkin is right - there are a few foreign students who matriculate each year into US medical schools. It is my understanding however that the VAST majority of them have US undergraduate degrees. I would suggest contacting schools as well as AMCAS to assess whether your lack of a US undergraduate degree will be a problem as none of us here know.

Financial assistance WILL have to come from your family; you will be ineligible for all US government loans and must have US citizen co-signers for any alternative loans. But you should bear in mind that although your brother may be able to help you, some schools explicitly state that they require you deposit ALL 4 years of tuition and loan monies into an account - ie, "proof" of your ability to pay. Does your brother have THIS kind of money (we're talking nearly $200,000 at the private schools at which you will be eligible).

Citizenship is a problem because you become ineligible for admission to state funded schools; this leaves the private schools of medicine, of which there are many. However, they are (as stated above) expensive and receive many applications - from US and non-US citizens alike.

For a non-native English speaker, your VR score of 8 is excellent. I would not recommend retaking the MCATs, given the risk of lowering the very important BS and PS scores. A score of 8 will not keep you out of a US medical school.

Letters of recommedation from a Red Cross physician will not hurt your application unless this person is well known to be an idiot or unpleasant person. I highly doubt there will be political concerns over such a source.

Your CV is certainly impressive. However, the point is moot until you check with AMCAS and see what their policy is on applicants without a US undergrad education. You may be better off pursuing a medical degree in your home country.

Best of luck to you and please let us know what ACMAS says.

Next time you decide to email people, ask a question. I don't enjoy opening my email and having several of the same emails from you. My email address is accessable for those who have genuine questions about a problem that I could possibly help solve or give input to. I don't like replying to questions like do I have a chance. Everyone has a chance. The question is do you think you have a chance. Don't abuse the email privelages. It's annoying and inconsiderate.

I heard that if your name is Abu or Habib and buy a gas station here in the US, then you will qualify for in-state tuition and will get a green card so you can go to med school in the US. If I were you I'd start saving. Just thought I'd add my two cents.

Hmmm.. all those credentials may get you an interview, but if you have no personality, you're screwed. From your somewhat intrusive behavior (emailing people the same stuff they can read here) i'm guessing that may be the case. One more thing-- adapting and observing are pretty important in medicine, so I'm suprised you TYPED IN ALL CAPS. THEY UNFORTUNATELY CAUSE ME TO GET NEGATIVE PRECONCEIVED OPINIONS OF PEOPLE, AND I'M AFRAID IT HAPPENED WITH YOU.

take it easy
