I am planning to apply to 7 DO schools this cycle for the fall 2003. I had a 3.3 undergrad GPA, but my pre-med GPA was a 2.55 <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" /> I was a Psych major. Because my undergrad was not so hot I decided to enroll in both an MPH program and postbaac program (it wasnt a formal one, just took upper level classes with undergrads at local state college). I took classes like Physio. and Biochem and got B+s. I brought my science GPA to a 3.2. My MPH GPA is a 3.8. I have 3 years worth of extensive work experience in the field of public health and tutor Hispanic kids. I also plan to shadow a DO. Took my April MCATs. I still feel really uncertain though. Any advice???

Dont worry as long as you do fine on the MCAT, you will be okay. DO schools also look at upward trend in you GPA. The fact that you did well in you MPH program will also help. EC and clinical experinces will also help make you a competitive applicant. GOOD LUCK

The MPH will help in and of itself. The school I'm going to (OSUCOM) looked quite favorably on mine. The high grad sch GPA helps too. What is your area of emphasis?

Do be sure to shadow a DO and get a good DO rec letter. Very important!

Looks like you are on the right track. Go ahead and start that ACOMAS app so it'll be ready when your scores come in!

Good luck!

Sounds like you've defnitely done your prep work. In all honesty you shouldn't have much of a problem... but be prepared to defend your grades in an interview. It happens occasionally in the interview process and as long as you can stand behind your work, that's what they're looking for.

Good luck!

It is quite often that students post threads regarding their chances of getting accepted to one of the colleges. I really do not believe that there are admissions staff posting on this web site. I just finished my second year at COMP and I can not really tell you what it takes to get into COMP. I have fellow classmates that scored above 30 on the MCAT and some that scored 22. I have friends that have their MS degrees and one guy has a pHD. It is just a mystery as to how the school comes up with its average acceptance profile. As for me, my numbers are really embarassing and I have no idea why they accepted me over someone else. I can tell you that I performed well over the last two years and I am in the top third of my class. I am not trying to brag, but if you knew my GPA and MCAT numbers you would be surprised. I know I am. My point is that I feel you should grab the bull by the horns and go for it. If it is meant to be then it will happen. Good luck!
